  1. I must admit I find this head of the C of E a bit ironic considering the number of divorces within our ruling family.
  2. #34 does nor refer to cost if that how it was interpreted but who would end up on the throne.
  3. I've no doubt someone can calculate where we'd be now if HM was compulsorily retired at 65 (68?) like the rest of us.
  4. Manipulation I suppose, along with 'lies, damn lies and statistics'.
  5. It was reported this morning that according to a 'POL', 70% of people support the monarchy. The result and its subject aside, has anyone ever been asked to take part in such a POL on any subject? I haven't and I know of no one who has.
  6. Seems to be going on towards a religion - based on faith.
  7. How big is you suitcase?
  8. Sorry. When I saw the words in your site, 'bolting veg' I honestly thought you'd been eating 'em too quick. Needless to say, I'm no gardener!
  9. I agree with all above about kids and it's Interesting that in the site 'Back To School' there were several 'likes' for the excellent poem expressing gratitude for the kids being back at school and therefore the responsibility of the teachers. It seems to me that many parents are too eager to off shoulder their own responsibilities for their children to anyone willing to take charge. I've seen it happen many times as a member of an Am Dram group.
  10. I was on stage during an amateur performance once when one of the cast spotted and old lady in the audience. He asked her, 'Ever spoken to Elvis'? - 'No' - 'Ever seen him' - 'No' - 'Won't be long now will it'? Subtle or what!
  11. We used to make butter/cheese in a bottle with milk and something, not sure what, and the girls made scent by putting rose petals with water in a bottle.
  12. 'A daughter you will have for life; a son you will have till he takes a wife' - When pouring a cup of tea; Milk before sugar, lose your lover'.
  13. I increasingly find that there are no 'thank yous', particularly from younger ladies when a door is held or opened for them.
  14. I once had a gent' of the mystic east offering me a device which, when plugged in, would half my electricity bill. I was offered this because I paid my bills on time. He said I sounded cheerful and had a young sounding voice for my age which was nice of him. He went on for sometime about how pleasant I was then asked for my bank details so the plug in item could be despatched to me. I told him to send me the item then I would send him a cheque. I never received anything. Odd!
  15. Not so much don't see it much anymore as never seen it. After finding a car park in Ely yesterday we looked for somewhere to pay and found this notice. ' Parking here is free. Enjoy your day and tell your friends'. It seemed to apply for the other car parks we saw and certainly seemed to work. They were packed and the town was full of tourists.
  16. The system appears to be one of patronising for whatever reason. Seeking favour or advertising in some sense. I suppose the royal family is a prime example of this.
  17. A useful item, not possible to patent, is the man's selective hearing switch which blocks out unwanted conversation but allows the head to nod in agreement.
  18. Years ago my uncle, Frank Ward who lived in South Normanton, had a tobacconist shop on Parliament Street. As I remember it, it was a small shop on the right going towards Huntingdon Street, a good way down near a railway bridge (?). This was around 60 years ago so memory is a bit rocky.
  19. No doubt many will remember a time when pits and firms took block holidays to give time for maintenance. No choice then.
  20. There was an interesting discussion on the radio the other day about the fining of parents for taking their children out of school for a family holiday. The education side said that the education of a child would suffer very much if a week, or a couple of days, were to be lost and there would be an adverse effect on the child's classmates. I couldn't help thinking it would be good if teachers were to have the same consideration about their charges in cases of strike, inset days, or the closure of a school due to 'adverse' weather conditions. Has any contributor experienced such action agains
  21. Yer know - yer know - yer know - and everything.
  22. Don't knock it till you've tried it.
