Dr Lavelle gets mentioned a lot in this old thread. https://nottstalgia.com/forums/topic/14920-ailments-aches-pains-lets-hear-them-here/?page=98&tab=comments#comment-673361

That is something which never ceases to amaze me. Do those people never look at themselves in the mirror; and if so what do they see ? Nose and ear hair can be difficult to see unless you are very friendly with the person, but exploding eyebrows stand out a mile and can make you look like a circus clown.

I personally find that look comical and bizarre..........but everyone is entitled to their opinions. We should be grateful that anyone can wear whatever they choose, regardless of the reaction it may generate. The alternative is something like China back in the 60s with everyone wearing a Chairman Mao grey suit.

As they get older, many people tend to dress in the style (casual or formal) which was popular when they were in their teens & 20s. i wonder if today's teens & 20s will continue to dress like this when they get to 60 - 70.

Trivia. Nothing to do with Nottingham, but might be interesting nevertheless. https://getpocket.com/explore/item/12-old-words-that-survived-by-getting-fossilized-in-idioms?utm_source=pocket-newtab-global-en-GB

Some people can carry off the casual look - but many can't. The problem is that those who can't are the majority who walk around like that. They think they look cool...but they don't.

Just seen your reaction to where you found it on FB

I'm not seeing any cut-off. All the words are there with complete sentences. It doesn't help that it's a bit of a rant, which might make it appear something's missing.

Aren't you going to also tell us that the lady in the foreground is Beryl who you took to the Palais in 1962 ? -

To me this perfectly evokes growing up in the late 50s-early 60s more than just about any other piece of music. -
Doesn't really answer the question but there's an NEP feature on old Netherfield which includes a few photos of Victoria Road. https://nottstalgia.com/forums/topic/18113-netherfield-photos/

It's this stretch of Victoria Road, with arrows going right to left. https://goo.gl/maps/56u4uhucG5MPBSQJA

I can see now where the misunderstanding has happened. Victoria Road isn't mentioned in the original post, but that's the length of road in question. It's one-way in an easterly direction. It's not immediately obvious on the map but Chandos Street extends down onto Victoria Road - it's semi-pedestrianised and marked as a thinner line.

This may be the one you'd found; described as Adams Cottages from Adams Street - with Lindsay Street in the distance. https://picturenottingham.co.uk/image-library/image-details/poster/ntgm001020/posterid/ntgm001020.html Lindsay Street is marked here; the road on the left is Radford Road, and St Paul's church is still there. The narrow road between Lindsay Street and Forest Street is Adams Street, but not named on here. -
What are you listening to now ??
Cliff Ton replied to Oztalgian's topic in Nick Palmer's Nottstalgia General Music Chat.
It was released in 69 and I don't think I'd ever heard it since then, until I was digging around on Youtube a few months ago. And then I found I remembered it really well. -
I know the area reasonably well but I'm not sure which stretch of road is being referred to. I don't think there is a one way stretch between Chandos St and Forester St. All the roads which go between those two are two-way. https://goo.gl/maps/f6gyKBNNnEiWsKBQA

Obscure mid-60s single which wasn't a chart success but I always liked it and still do. I may be the only person who remembers it. -

As an experiment, I've just got a quote from Lloyds (even though I'm now committed to Saga). They were almost identical to the Saga quote, so they're good.....and sensible.......nowhere near the stupidity of Churchill. I'll bear them in mind for future years.

For the past few years I'd been with Direct Line who had been good on price. This year their automatic renewal was a 40% increase, which I thought was a bit too far. A look around MoneySupermarket pointed me to Saga who were only slightly above what Direct Line had been last year. As a random experiment, I looked at one of the companies who proudly tell you they aren't on comparison sites - Churchill. They came up with a price 90% higher than Saga. That's why they aren't on comparison sites.

I'll bet Ben never delivered groceries on anything like those.
