  1. If you use the Search facility on Nottstalgia, you will find that many of these subjects have been covered in previous threads. Similarly with Samantha Morton, Mickey Dolenz, the Victoria Centre, Nottingham pop groups, Scooters, old television programmes, etc etc. Please take a look before you start any more. Those who do not know history are condemned to repeat it
  2. I definitely remember being taken to Redmayne and Todd for school things. And here's D and P, if anyone doesn't remember.
  3. Nobody's told Tesco http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/search/default.aspx?searchBox=fairy+cake&sc_cmp=tescohp_sws-1_fairy+cake
  4. And you can buy a 1913 Bulwell OS map http://www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk/
  5. Realised I don't actually know which church we are talking about. So this is the one which was demolished where the memorial disappeared. Its church hall, across the road, is still there.
  6. After half an hour I've already been proved correct. The collective brain power of this forum is gob-smacking.
  7. Are you certain they were all in Bulwell? Have you looked on a present-day map to see if they still exist? Someone else may know more than me on the subject. Old Yard - The census will also say which road that was on. Almost certainly doesn't exist now. Buildings - I assume something is missing here. Nothing will have that name. It will be called xxxx Buildings. Brocklehurst Yard - As with Old Yard Quarry Road - Dunno Forest Side - There was an area of this name alongside Bulwell Forest - surprisingly. Near the present Bancroft Street. Birkland Street - Maybe there was one, but no long
  8. Welcome to Nottstalgia PeterW. Looking back at the original post, no-one ever mentioned Rowans in the subsequent replies - everyone latched on to one of the other parts of the question! And the person who originally posted it, steve47, hasn't logged on here for a long time. So it will be interesting to see if your query manages to re-boot the subject.
  9. If you haven't seen this before.......http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM014715&prevUrl=
  10. If you haven't checked yet, it's still there (or at least a version of it) http://goo.gl/maps/NYYYs
  11. Now I know where we are. In the 1980s...... And in the 1950s... And the Express Building
  12. Looked ok to me. Never seen so many adverts for viagra.
  13. I suppose it's a case of "you'd know what he's talking about" if you know who Dan Crossland was, where Albion Chambers is, and what an RRA is.
  14. When I was in my teens I had proper lessons on piano and organ. I could read music, and organ-wise I could use the pedals as well as keyboard. But I wonder how much I could remember now, as I haven't attempted anything like that for over 30 years. Maybe it's like riding a bike - you never really forget, just come unstuck occasionally.
  15. I'm comfortable with most types of food.
  16. You say you are struggling to decide between Beeston and the City Centre. Why have you chosen Beeston as one of the options, as opposed to Wollaton or West Bridgford or Carlton or Mapperley or any other suburb?
  17. First used it on a Mac when I worked at Central TV on Lenton Lane. What made it slightly different - although I didn't appreciate it at the time - was that it was broadband when almost everybody everywhere was still using dial-up. First time I ever actually used dial-up - at someone's house - I couldn't believe how slow and clunky it was. I'd been spoiled by learning on broadband and assumed that's how it was everywhere.
  18. Mine might be more self-explanatory than some others. It's where I grew up and lived for the first 20+ years of my life.
  19. Sticking "pot" on the end of words seems to be quite common. I've also come across "barmpot" as a variation of barmy.
  20. There seem to be quite a few photos of Finney on Friends Reunited. Hover your mouse over the first image which appears, and then click on the arrow to the right. There are several more photos. http://www.friendsreunited.co.uk/if-you-never-got-the-chance-to-catch-the-finney-bus-after-school-you-haven-t-li/Memory/10b10918-0611-4ba0-b3b5-f9322c82e8db
  21. If not-too-old railway photos are your thing, this will keep you quiet for a long time. http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidwf2009/collections/72157626274215250/
  22. Certainly the bulk of 'Saturday Night' was filmed in Nottingham, which is why it is good with the ambience. There are several threads on Nottstalgia discussing that subject, as well as the locations of the few 'foreign' scenes. The pub where Albert Finney falls down the stairs is/was the White Horse on Ilkeston Road. The building is still there but it's now a cafe. The other pub in the film - where he gets beaten up - is in London.
  23. All the info you need according to Picture the Past http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM007025&prevUrl=
