  1. It's been noticed before. I reckon two reasons play a big part - alcohol and memory. People have a few drinks late in the evening and then start surfing around. They find Nottstalgia, and under the influence of whatever they've had, it seems like a good idea to register. When they wake up next day they can't remember why they signed on and can't think of anything to say on any thread. The others are the ones who register, and then just simply forget they ever did it and don't think about the site again.
  2. Don't have any books, but I do have all my old School Reports, from Greencroft Junior School and later from Fairham.
  3. Speaking from personal experience on the subject - I eventually realised why you don't get bored when you stop work. Life expands to fill the time available. You do everything at a more relaxed pace.
  4. But if you've got any left in your attic, they fetch some pretty big money. If you take a scroll through here..... http://www.vectis.co.uk/Page/ViewAuctionLots.aspx?AuctionId=445&DayNo=1&Section=127&Sub=0
  5. From somewhere else on the net. Hand-tinted photo of the whole Raleigh site.
  6. Sometimes it happens quite suddenly. http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/Mansfield-pub-Crown-Anchor-closed-police-raid/story-18829248-detail/story.html#axzz2QXvwlZUN
  7. Doesn't really answer your question, but this shows how it all was around 1920. The building you mention is presumably the one on the corner.
  8. It may have been like this for a while, but this is the ex-Woolies in Ilkeston a few weeks ago.
  9. For connoisseurs of the subject, check back on this thread http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9861&hl=toilets
  10. Nice and symmetrical, if nothing else
  11. A bit of a partial answer to Commo's question http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM015691&prevUrl=
  12. Yes the layout of the old Broad Marsh bus station did change for a few years in the late 60s/early 70s. The horseshoe-shaped version existed until around 69 when the redevelopment of the whole Broad Marsh area started. That resulted in the flattening and clearance of the area previously occupied by the bus station. So for a couple of years it was replaced by the two-parallel-lines version which was certainly operating in the early 70s. That lasted until the Broad Marsh Centre was finished - including its bus station - and then the buses moved into the building still in use now. I rem
  13. I don't know the area well, but this is mid-1950s and might answer a few questions.
  14. That seemed to go down pretty well If anybody were to ask me (which they haven't) for my favourites among that lot, I'd have to nominate two. This, because it's a great street scene at a not-too-photographed location. And a nice Standard Vanguard and Ford Pop/Anglia. http://flic.kr/p/4cr8Ja And this, because these had style. http://flic.kr/p/7bpjfF
  15. We've mentioned it before somewhere, but it seems like the Co-op in Nottingham have had a long-standing death wish. Go back to the 80s and they still had the two big stores - Parliament Street and Broad Marsh. They were closed down and never replaced. Many of the smaller Co-ops have also disappeared over the years, at the same time as Sainsbury's and Tesco have been opening up their "Direct" and "Local" versions. Just the kind of places which the Co-op used to own. In my slight experience of Co-ops in recent times, their food prices always seemed more expensive than any of their competitors.
  16. A amazing collection of 306 (so far) photos of buses in Nottingham, some going back a long time. The lady responsible for this also has a large number of other photos which might interest Nottstalgia people. When you've looked at the buses, click on "Sets" above the Flickr logo at top left. http://flic.kr/s/aHsiU3Bk1A
  17. I know it's an old thread, but nobody ever posted a photo of the place. Streetview don't go up the road, so this is the closest you can get.
  18. I used Photobucket for many years with no problem, but they recently restyled and changed their site and the way things happen. Since this "improvement" I've noticed many features not working correctly, and various glitches which never happened in the good old days. I've now started a Flickr account.
  19. Tony, first thing to do is go here http://www.flickr.com/ and then click on the bit which says "Sign Up". And fill in the appropriate bits.
  20. There is a LOT of material to read here. https://webspace.utexas.edu/cokerwr/www/index.html/spacegods.shtml If you have the inclination or patience, it gives an alternative view to almost everything.
  21. There was a record shop which fits that location until about a year ago (although it doesn't look like it was classical) http://goo.gl/maps/aGqKI
