  1. George922, if you haven't already searched around Nottstalgia, you might like to look at this old thread http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10344 which covers ground you may find familiar.
  2. By an amazing coincidence, here's one I did a few weeks ago. He's surrounded by protection from the trams.
  3. The original Toll Bridge was closed in 1974; that is the one which traffic was allowed on, and is in the background on BulwellBrian's photos. That bridge was demolished and replaced by a new bike/pedestrian bridge in 1980. That second one is now being enlarged and strengthened to take trams.
  4. And how long ago is it since Burtons moved out?
  5. You might be in for a shock. Look at post #47 in the thread you are in now.
  6. Weird, but I see what you mean. I've changed it again. Photobucket is playing silly bu++ers. I'm only doing what I always did, but it's now behaving differently. I'm having to manually change the code which I paste into the message.
  7. Odd, because I could see it I've re-linked it so should be there now.
  8. Sort of..... I don't remember it being like this; note there are TWO Selectadisc shops separated by a bakers and an empty shop. The one on the left is the original small Selectadisc. And had you noticed on the photo about Ace Records that the Goldsmith Street version of Selectadisc is just visible? Here's a better view of it.
  9. The combination of light/exposure/reflections make the front near-side wing look odd, and make the front wheel arch appear to be cropped. If you add or invent the missing portion of the front wing, it gives a better idea of how the thing might have looked. And notice the two sidelights or indicators (small black dots) on the top of the wings.
  10. Seems to be called "The Elms". http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM007797&prevUrl= Which leads to this explanation of it, probably being the Ostler's House for Basford Hall. http://gohistoric.com/sites/elms-nottingham
  11. I'm seeing the "Like" button (on Chrome), but I'm not seeing any names of who has liked a post.
  12. Correct! Although it's not one I remember.

  14. So with poohbear's information, it turns out to be one of the few remaining buildings at that top corner of Ilkeston Road. It was one of these shops (The Borlase is on the left)
  15. You had me wondering, but it is the place. There's a weird bit of camera work happening. On both Pic the Past photos you can't see the cupola where Mr Player watched his people and places. And as a reminder........ Note the distinctive small, square window which goes across a corner of the building, and the two large bay windows to the right of that corner window. Now, look at an aerial photo of the place. You can see that corner window again, and the two triangular end gables....and you can see the cupola towards the back of the building. Both photos are taken from a low angle, and ma
  16. What years are we talking about? And which corner? If you are back in the 50s/60s, from the Borlase you could go round the corner on to Derby Road or round the other corner on to Ilkeston Road, when Ilkeston Road still came right up there. (If you don't recognise it, the Borlase in on the left and Ilkeston Road is coming up the middle)
  17. That site has been referenced a lot on here, especially by me.
  18. Yes I can also see it, and I'm also seeing the new stuff. And I'm also seeing that the "Latest announcements is no announcements" has gone completely.
  19. Welcome to Nottstalgia Ali. Here's a photo of The Plough from a few years ago, although not back to 1871 http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM004260&prevUrl= Do you mean St Peter's Street? Because that is the road The Plough is/was on. Maybe your relatives had the monopoly in pubs on that road, and George ran the other one which wasn't The Plough. And that seems to have been called The Old Rose http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM012133&prevU
  20. Bearing in mind the photo is just post-war, I wonder if it was cobbled together from various parts by someone who couldn't get hold of anything better in the late 40s. An early kit car.
  21. The Television Workshop mentioned by Stan at the beginning of this thread is the same thing as the Junior Television Workshop - mentioned by systema - run by Ian Smith in the days of Central at Lenton Lane. As Central TV and the Lenton Lane studios no longer exist, the Workshop became a separate, independent organisation, As this demonstrates http://www.thetelevisionworkshop.co.uk/
  22. Ashley, take a look at this link. I think it's close to the kind of thing you are looking for. When you get to the first photo, click on "Older" at the top right and go through several more photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/gwoodward/3231818373/in/photostream/
  23. They were built around 63/64. According to PTP, Plaisaunce was demolished in 1961.
