  1. I can't remember the guy's site, but it is very, very funny. He's posted a lot of the replies from these people, and they are shockingly stupid. It's sad that complete numbskulls can invade our lives with this garbage. I'm all for making the pathetic lives of these Spammers a misery. It's a time-consuming activity though.
  2. I am sure they must send hundreds of thousands of these things out. I guess they've only got to fool a small percentage of people in order to still make a tidy sum. It angers me that none of the major players (Microsoft, Google, Yahoo) do ANY effective work in tracing these irritating scrotes. As you've shown above, examining the header can yield the whole route map of where these things have come from. But they don't do anything - and security is so lax with open relays etc. that the scammers can operate with total impunity. It costs nothing. They just hijack accounts to send out this g
  3. He small enough and greasy enough. He will certainly try !
  4. Re. #16 Yes. That's a drug that treats HIV. What a complete and utter scumbag. Unfortunately this kind of untrammelled greed and avarice was encouraged during the 80's and it's still rife now. These are people who are devoid of morality, who expect to be praised for being complete and utter bastards. It would be a shame if this guy suddenly contracted HIV and then had to buy these drugs from someone else to stay alive. If only Karma was instant. Corporate scandals like VW and other notable scams like Olympus and Parmalat show that people will quite willingly lie through their teeth for
  5. ......and he's gone ! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-34340997
  6. It's simply greed. Lying and cheating. Whizz kids thinking that they can bend the rules to suit themselves and no-one will notice. A bit like the Toyota debacle of a few years ago when they started using cheap parts in high price luxury vehicles and when things started to fail they denied there was a problem. Unfortunately people started dying before they admitted that they were at fault. Such things destroy reputations and brand names built up over many decades. It is down to executives. That's why the CEO Martin Winterkorn is a goner !
  7. It's a bit like that question 'who do you like - The Beatles or The Stones ?' My answer was always that I liked both. I didn't see why I had to prefer one or the other. Same with Elvis. I like The Beatles, The Stones AND Elvis. I doubt we will never see their like again. Oh and think Elvis's hair colour was brown. He definitely dyed it black. That autopsy programme said that at the time of his death he was probably grey or even white. Makes sense, as his dad had very striking grey hair.
  8. As I speak I have yet again received another email from 'Canadian Pharmacy' which sends out stuff all the time - supposedly selling drugs like Viagra and Cialis. It is just a scam of course. They just want creditcard details or attempt to get you click some link which installs God-knows-what on your computer. It is from a different address every time. Mostly from third world ISP's or dodgy outfits like Turktelecom or Softlayer. It's worth looking on spamhaus.org for the top 10 ISP's responsible for sending out this stuff. As I understand it, Canadian Pharmacy and other 'asian' scammers uti
  9. They think that calling themselves Michael or John will disguise the fact they have an extremely obvious Asian accent ! I've often thought of getting a high rate phone line and referring their calls to it so that I can earn a few bob. I'd be delighted to waste their time and keep them on the line for ages whilst racking up £15 a minute. Seriously though, they are a thorough nuisance. They are just wasting our time and trying to rip us off. I wish there was some comeback. For the most part they can carry on their scams with complete impunity because phone companies and the authorities don
  10. So.....10 days or so of Windows 10. Has it changed the world yet ? I must say I'm suprised at the lack of enthusiasm at the launch of this 'exciting new epoch in computing'. Seems to be something of a whimper. The impression I get from various different forums is that people are majorly concerned with the big increase in invasion of privacy. By default you are 'opted-in' to a whole raft of options that will quietly track your behaviour and use it to fire targeted ads at you, as well as keeping tabs on your location history, data from messages, calendars, contacts and goodness knows what el
  11. John Collier - The Window To Watch ! In Worsted/Terylene..... Remember all those miracle fabrics : tricel, bri-nylon... Apart from the cheap clothes, there were curtains that were lethal fire hazards, and nylon sheets that used to give off massive static discharges Smashie & Nicey did some fantastic spoof adverts based on them: Deptford Dralons (loosely based on Brentford Nylons with Fluff Freeman - Allright ?!)
  12. Absolutely right Tony. Some of the things they sell aren't bargains at all. But most are ! I've got a list of Poundland things that I've found to be particularly cheap and cheerfull. It ranges from Ant Powder to parcel tape - mainly things that are fairly disposable, but which seem to have become fairly expensive elsewhere now. It used to be that you got certain things from specific places e.g. stationery from W.H.Smiths, toiletries from Boots etc. But now, out of necessity, we've all become professional shoppers and note down all the different places where we we've seen things for reason
  13. I've seen on several forums that since Windows 8, the OS constantly communicates with Microsoft servers. So much so, that people with limited broadband allowances (10Gb a month) are finding that they are using up all their data in no time at all - even though they haven't been particularly busy on downloads. I've also heard about Office stopping working quite a lot too. Something to do with the key not being verified.
  14. Try as I might not get tangled up in your 'counter arguments' DJ, I wonder if you've ever been burgled ? I have. It makes you feel violated and vulnerable. Now were being told that the police probably won't bother to come. You're happy with that are you ? I find it totally unacceptable.
  15. I recently wrote a letter to the Home Secretary expressing my disgust at Sara Thornton - the newly appointed head of the National Police Chiefs' Council who appeared on TV last week to say that the police would no longer be attending burglaries. Yes, you read correctly! She said that budget cuts had made it necessary to prioritise and anyway - there are a lot less burglaries than there used to be. What an utter disgrace. This woman is on a salary of a quarter million pounds a year, and she thinks that she can change the law to suit her budgets. Burglars must be delighted. Ms Thornton is
  16. We've got the self-righteous, 'determined to be offended' brigade coming out and saying that the word 'swarm' - describing the large numbers of migrants trying to force their way in, is offensive. As Daniel Hanant pointed out, any TV reporter describing protesters breaking into a building would describe them as a swarm. Why is it that thousands of migrants trying to gain illegal entry to the country can't be described as such ? We had the same thing some years ago when David Blunkett was pilloried for describing the massive immigration figures as a 'flood of people' coming in. Both words a
  17. The belief among TV folk is that we're all all going to get 4 boxes to sit under the TV. We're going to need Freeview, Netflix, Sky, BT sport, Amazon Prime AND we're all going to pay through the nose every month - because we're desperate to see Clarkson, Champions League football, Game of Thrones, Lillyhammer etc. right ? It says something about the quality of the terrestial channels that we are now being forced to pay for anything that is regarded as quality television AND we'll have to put up with all the adverts that go with it. It's quite possible that a lot of us might just lose intere
  18. You and several million others !
  19. Mmm yeah. Bootup. I bet it's not ready to go after 12 seconds ! Usually you find that even though the desktop appears there's still loads going on - connecting to networks, internet etc, libraries loading, so on and so forth. Plus in a real-world situation there will be OS updates, antivirus updates, flash player..... Don't get me wrong, if it does boot up quicker I'll be delighted. I'm assuming that it doesn't have that retarded jigsaw that was standard with Windows 8 (The metro interface). Looking forward to hearing more about your Windows 10 experience.
  20. Thanks for the screenshots. I guess the best compliment you can give it so far is that it doesn't look like Windows 8 !!
  21. I remember Slim Hooley. I think he went to Bramcote Tech.
  22. It's quite amusing really to see the enormous racks of electronics and massive tape machines with spools whizzing round that was the model of a computer - even as recently as the 70's Punchcards, tape, loads of secretaries entering data. People in white coats. The whole reason for computers originally was complex calculations and databases. There's a fantastic programme called 'Triumph Of the Nerds' which traces the development of the computer from WW 2 to the present day. It is fascinating stuff. In it they describe the rise of the Apple computer from humble beginnings to being on the des
  23. Ha. Norman Greenbaum. Yes you're right Ian, another fantastic one hit wonder. Spirit In the Sky was covered by loads of people - Elton John, Bauhaus, even Gareth Gates. It's still used in movies and TV programmes today. I loved the guitar sound on that record. Produced by Erik Jacobsen - who did the Lovin'Spoonful, Tim Hardin, Chris Isaak. I was doing a programme on local radio and was asked to track down the follow up to Spirit In The Sky. It was called Canned Ham. Not very good (!)
  24. Re. post 27. Pete Townsend had a lot to do with the success of 'Something In The Air'. He produced it, played bass on it (Bijou Drains) and published it. A few years before Speedy Keen's death he said that he had been trying to track him down in order to give him a cheque for a million pounds. Such was the success of the record. It may have been a one-hit wonder but it was used so many times for different things - as well as being such a well-played golden oldie. I think I'm right in saying that John Keen had been Townsend's flatmate and also his chauffeur. It was his fast-driving that ea
