  1. Spent 23 years working at a brickyard/clay quarry, Bradley and Craven semi plastic brick presses, Craven Fawcett brick press, Hoffman kilns, (one kept burning from the 1930's until mid 90's) and giant crushing mills with 4 1/2 ton crushing rollers, we made common bricks, red rustic, pin hole rustic, sand faced, as well as clay cable covers (patented) Oh happy days I'll go and get my anorak now Rog
  2. I seem to remember there being a residential home about opposite the djanogly center or just a bit further down the hill towards the city, the main entrance was on Nottingham road and there was also a side entrance on one of the side roads leading off Nottm road but can't quite remember what that was called, I think the home may have been called the Gables though, this would be in the mid to late 90's Rog
  3. I remember the Clifton car company, When my dad bought a new (to him) car from them they asked if they could have his old Hillman Minx to use as an advert for their body shop, of course my dad agreed and they sprayed one half (down the length) a pale blue and left the original black down the other half and displayed it on their forecourt, can anyone remember seeing it? reg number 796 CNN Rog

  5. Lovely bird the Sparrow Hawk, you're lucky to see one so close, we have one in our back field and I'm caught in the middle here because I feed the birds like everyone else but when the Sparrow Hawk is hungry he just flies down from the tree and helps himself to either a blue tit, great tit, robin, chaffinch or whatever takes his fancy, still that's nature I suppose and small birds are the Hawks staple, Don't forget to feed the birds and give them fresh water daily Rog

  8. Quite right about that temp bridge Ashley, it spanned the river Erewash, i think the river was being diverted at the time as part of the then new flood defences, the river ends in the lakes of the Attenborough nature reserve (old gravel workings) and eventually into the river Trent via a small overflow?levelling weir, as per the original post I was told it was some culvert that ran through the site of the old Barton bus depot Rog
  9. I can remember seeing him too Ashley, used to wear a big overcoat and carry a bag, every time he swung one of his feet forwards he had a terribly pained look on his face, by gum that were a long time ago Rog

  15. Just the same out here in cabbage county, drivers can't go round a bend without crossing the center line, even on blind bends then look at you as if you are in the wrong and while I'm on the subject why do the idiots who drive 4x4's are afraid to get a wheel on the grass verge and expect me in my little Corsa to drive in the rough when going passed each other, stupid hill billies Rog

  22. I was under the impression that anyone who was convicted of a crime and sent to prison had all the privileges took away until such a time when the community was no longer in danger from these people, It seems now if you get sent to prison you come out with a decent education, usually the skills to get employment or even a job waiting for you plus now a pocket full of taxpayers dosh because you weren't allowed to vote, what a load of bo***ks Rog

  24. When I used to visit my grandparents on Wilford grove there was always a pan of stew on the range and a clean table cloth on the table, on special occasions I was allowed in the "front room", always seemed cold and damp to me but in there was a big three piece suite covered in blue velvet type material most uncomfortable and prickly to the backs of bare legs when one only wore short trousers, other grandparents in Bulwell also had a clean table cloth on the table and a bottle of sterilised milk and tea pot, at one end of the kitchen was another small room called the "scullery" where the sink w
