  1. Well done Mr Booth, keep `em coming! You were kind enough to give me my first "like" but I reckon it'll be a long wait for as many as you!
  2. Ian, opposite the top of Curzon St, where Mr Diddle had his shop, was a flight of steps up to Stretton St. This was a dead end to the left, but came out the other way down another set of steps onto Northumberland St, across from the top of Hutchinson St.

    Hi all

Welcome to the Forum Tony, there are a few of us old St Annsians on here but you are the only one I know of who went to Shelto like I did although I left there in 1954 to go to Hunto Juniors, but like you only there for a year before moving away. This is a great site and I hope you find plenty to interest you and that you get stuck in let us have a share of your memories. Be assured, none of us will be bored!!! Just seen on another thread that there is someone else went to Shelto, Tompa, so it's like waiting ages for a bus then 3 come along at once!
  4. There are 4(?) films on DVD from the late 40`s and early 50`s with John Bentley and Dinah Sheridan, she being a more "visual" Steve than Marjorie Westbury.
  5. Carni,re #12, they shouldn't have been using "U" shaped pea shooters!
  6. Still have all my vinyl from some early 10" Woody Herman from the 40`s through to the early 80`s when it became difficult to get them and everything was then on tape cassette, they were awful! I've still got a turntable for the LP`s though.
  7. Compo, is there anything in your eclectic collection that you don't have? Your place sounds like a veritable Aladdins cave and I'm sure that quite a few of us on here would love a rummage around.Good job you live so far away and are safe from a bus load of us dropping in!!
  8. #115, Paul, I'm fairly sure that you remember correctly!
  9. Just a reminder, ITV tonight at 9·00, St Ann's dancing on ice!
  10. Gud on ya FLY2, and you've only been on here for a couple of months!!
  11. A little bit of Googling turns up that 69A Mansfield Rd was occupied by the Stubbs family from the late Victorian age through to the early 1900s as various types of retailing operations from confectioners through cycle shop to electricians. Our archivists can no doubt consult their directories to check the relevant dates.
  12. Memory correction to #67. It wasn't Mansfield but Edinburgh !! Not much difference there then!
  13. Hi John and welcome to the Forum, hope you enjoy all there is to find here and do let us have your memories of Nottingham. Roy Rogers and Trigger did tour the UK in 1954 and made many guest appearances at cinemas around the Country. Mrs Commo remembers seeing them in Mansfield and got an "autograph" of Trigger's hoof print, she wasn't bothered about Roy himself! Although I went to the Empress Saturday morning pictures I didn't see them there, but like you I do believe that The Empress was on the itinerary of the tour.
  14. I was always told that the birds would deposit unwanted waste about your person but not in those words!!
  15. Paul, we know how to dress well don't we pal!? Bet you're not surprised to know I still have a collection of silks but even 20 years ago I was told that if I kept wearing them long enough they would come back into fashion so I'm still hopeful!!
  16. Michael, having been through this ourselves over the past year or so, I can't say enough how fantastic we have found everyone in the NHS and how understanding and supportive they are. I'm sure you'll find just the same to get you through this worrying time.
  17. Great news Carni, we towd yer so dintwi!
  18. Yow` ll be fine mi duck, just take it in yer stride!
  19. Don't know what you mean Paul!!
  20. A report by Nottingham CC shows that as from 2016 licences granted to or renewed by any licensed premises will require all establishments to stop serving any alcohol after 10:30 pm and after that only provide non alcoholic beverages. This apparently is in a bid to cut down on drunkenness and anti social behaviour and reduce the street cleaning costs.
  21. An article in the Radio Times states that Nottingham is the poverty capital of the UK with 32per cent of children living in poverty and the average disposable annual income of each household being £10,834 as opposed to the UK average of £16,034. This is to promote a programme on 9th April whereby Torvill and Dean set up a mobile ice rink in St Ann's for the benefit of teenagers living there and to encourage them to take part in an ice show. Can't say I can see the reasoning behind this but it could be an interesting watch.
  22. Paul, if your legs are only 18 inches long, then my suit trousers will be too long for you, but they do have turn-ups so perhaps you could roll them up a bit more, or get in touch with Mick who may have a solution to that sort of problem
  23. Paul, when you come for your ties, you can have my double breasted suit as well as unfortunately over the years the waist band has shrunk somewhat!
  24. There's a chapel at Carlton cemetery, Cavendish Road, could it be the one that you're looking for?
