1. Often seen the vans around. He will be distantly related. Elizabeth Shacklock married my gt gt gt grandad Benjamin Thompson and they moved to Lambley.
2. I may have mentioned previously that I have ancestral links with Kirkby in Ashfield with some of em interred in St Wilfred's churchyard. Mainly the Hodgkinson and Shacklock families. The Hodgkinsons were wealthy and Catherine Hodgkinson was my 3x great grandmother. Her daughter died, presumably of exhaustion, having given birth to a tribe of children, mainly boys, who all had the middle name of Hodgkinson, except for my great grandfather who was given his mother's maiden name of Smith instead...George Samuel Smith Ward known as Sam and who ended his days at 24 Suez Street in Basford.
3. Not too familiar with Worksop. Had to visit the police station a few years ago in the course of my work. First time I'd ever been inside a police station. Could smell the toilets from some distance away! If I were of a criminal bent, one trip to that place would cure me!
4. He's the kind of outlaw FLY would welcome!
5. If you don't want to be criticised, say nothing, do nothing and be nothing!
6. Have a wonderful birthday, young Commo. Many more to come!
7. They may have been Turkish Van cats. A large breed which loves water and swimming!
8. Never regret anything...because at one time, it was exactly what you wanted!
9. I have my very own cat cafe. Whatever I've got, the moggies want it...and I'm a vegetarian!
10. Saturday's child works hard for a living! Too damned right!
11. The Home Brewery offices still stand, oz. They are now occupied by Notts County Council and in a fragile state. Wonderful Art Deco staircase inside. I visited there quite often when I worked for Notts a few years ago. The place was usually under scaffolding!
12. Mother Nature will control it eventually. Won't be pretty but no one ever said she's a benign mother.
13. Just read the sickening story of the polar bear who was shot and killed by a guard from a cruise ship in the Arctic circle because it reacted adversely to cruise passengers invading its ever shrinking environment. Events like these make me so angry. These creatures are not there for our entertainment or to be gawped at by paying audiences. They are a species whose environment is endangered and should be left alone or helped in an unobtrusive way to ensure their survival. Why can't man keep his distance and mind his own bl**dy business? There are too many people on this planet! We need less of
14. I've come across the name in parish registers when researching, DB, but don't think there are any in my family tree. My lot are Thompson, Ward and the inevitable Smith! Farmers, Millers and bakers most of them and, after retirement, innkeepers of The Robin Hood & Little John, The Woodlark and the other one whose name I can't just remember...Nag's Head?
15. There is scientific evidence that musicians have a greater number of synapses in their brains, Loppy. It's a very satisfying pastime, playing an instrument!
16. Go on then, Ben url=https://postimages.org/]
17. He who knows not and knows not that he knows not is a fool. Shun him. He who knows not and knows that he knows not is a student. Teach him. He who knows and knows not that he knows is asleep. Wake him. He who knows and knows that he knows is a wise man. Follow him.
18. url=https://postimg.cc/image/534hf9ooz/] This is Homer. He lives at Cat Rescue. He's just one of those cats everyone who meets him loves instantly...including me! If he ever disappears, they need look no further than my house!
19. I once lived in a village like that! Never met so many nosey people.
20. Any names? My mum's side of the family were in Lambley in the 19th/early 20th century. We could be related!
21. A timbered cottage in a field bordered by 10' high nettles would suit me fine. Cottage stuffed with cats, field stuffed with birds, hedgehogs, donkeys, etc. Anywhere in Nottingham,, so long as the locals keep out!
22. Clap of distant thunder as I got into the car to drive to work this morning. Approaching Ripley, the pavements were wet and within minutes, lightning, thunder and torrential rain. 8.30, more torrential rain and then out came the sun, up went the temperatures. Sweltering all day. Still had no rain at home but it's coming. I have a pressure headache!
23. Those were very brave women, many of them on the receiving end of abuse from their male counterparts. There was a fascinating tv programme made about them some years ago but there are now very few left.
