  1. Welcome skywalker I am a Nottingham person though and though have also lived abroad but always returned to my roots. Born in Old St Ann's don't know what all the fuss was about, New St Ann's can't say as after getting married went to live in Arnold. Good shopping centre, good schools, not far from the city. Then went to live in South Africa for 4 years retuned to the city with master and two young boys, stayed with mum and dad in block of flats bottom of Manvers St 2 mins walk from city centre.. I would not advise living too near city with children or living in a flat six floors up.
  2. Thanks letsavagoo going into the big city this morning will to the Trip and have a look, just for old time's sake.
  3. Air Ambulance is also kept by our donations not the NHS or GOVERMENT. The lifeboat and air ambulance should not have to wait for our donations it should be funded by Government.
  4. Can any one remember the Horn that was fixed into the wall. You had a metal ring on a rope and you had to throw it into a corner and try to get it on to the Horn. When Master and my self were very young that's when we first met I think he was trying to impress me, as he could throw the ring into two corners in a number 8 shape and he always got the ring on the Horn.
  5. Welcome Trinity. Hope you enjoy our site!!!!!!!
  6. When master and I went to live in South Africa in the 70s, you had to take a theory test before you could get a licence, also in your driving test you also had reverse parking. I learnt to drive in a small Toyota truck which also had column change gear's. My next door's husband Quizzy was my instructor and he always took me where a load of cars were parked to practise my reverse parking ( I must have reverse parked at least 20 times each lesson) but I passed my test first time, the only problem was that when returning to the UK I had to take my driving test again as my South Africa licence wa
  7. I was at Skegness girls home in the 50,? and at the time it was the Skegness Carnival week, the home had two open lorries which had to join the parade, we had a beauty queen and attendants, and other girls in fancy dress (can't remember what kind of fancy dress) but there were two sister's who had very bushy hair and they dressed them as Adam and Eve using large leaves to cover their bits with a vest to cover the top half. The problem was that it was a freezing cold day, I felt very sorry for the two girls.
  8. I must admit I like watching "Coronation Street" but when Audrey Roberts the so called hairdresser open's her mouth and speaks, I want to crawl into a corner. Quote A Roberts So ye see Mrs Brown was alrady brwn befor her blue rise, an she had to pay forr it. Play Bingo while on holiday the caller insisted the thirty three was furti free and thirty two was furti two. Do we not teach at school English any more. Not that I'm perfect far from it.

  12. Well we were lucky as most of our friends in the year 1965 had a shotgun wedding. Can't remember what we had as our first dance but we did have a three piece band, I suppose we should have had the Wedding Song, as building up to our day ever pub we went in it seemed to be playing, (Juke boxes were just coming in then.) I also had a silly brother who liked to arrange games, roll the balloon around your body, put a Polo mint on a cocktail stick and pass it on, are just a few. The beer flowed freely all night, all, paid for by my dad, we had about 100 guest's and the reception was at

  16. The only pub/steak bar I recall is "The Chateau" spent many a Saturday/Sunday morning in there, we use to arrive just before 10 30 this used to be the time when pubs closed, I'm sure member's can remember closing time. Any way we use to book in for a steak this was so we could obtain a ticket to use at the bar and stay till it closed about 2 30am, never did have a meal. PS don't tell anyone. I remember the Nottm Knight opening date around 1963/4 had my first "Baby Cham" in there. I seem to recall a pub down Radcliffe Road but can't remember its name but I'm sure it was a pub with a p

  19. Jill I think the Whitemoor pub is on the other side of the road. The Wheatsheaf is on or near Bobbers mill bridge. They are two different pubs. Please correct if I'm wrong.

The Whitemoor was on the opposite side of Nuthall Road to the Wheatsheaf and nearer to Western Boulevard. I used to live between them when I was younger

Yes, Mary, The Whitemoor was further along Nuthall Road on the opposite side. Last time I was in that area it had been renamed, I think it was The Snooty Fox. My parents would sometimes have a walk up there on a Sunday evening in summer. It was a nice place.

  20. Hi Drabmuloc St Ann's board school was an infant and junior school. I went about 51/52 left 57/58 went on to Sycamore schools for girls. Infant school head mistress was a Mrs Hayes and Junior school head master was a Mr Salt, the school was between Edwin St and Duncomb St. Your right the class rooms of the junior school did come off the hall, opposite the stage was a class room which was at mazzanine level this was the art room. At the front of the school which was on St Ann's Well road were stone steps each side of the entrance (very impressive) but in all the years I attended I nev

  22. Not sure if this pub is classed as being in Basford, On the bus the other day going to Notts and stopping near Bobber's Mill (I think this is what its called) The Wheatsheaf pub was being cleaned up boy doe's the front of it look good but I was soon disappointed when I found out it was going to be a Mc' Donalds drive through. We are being taken over by Mc Donalds when will it end.
  23. What more can be said? I was a teen'ebop in between a mod and rocker used to have hair in a bouffant and lots of net under skirts to make my skirt stick out. Also 4 inch stiletto heels and of course stockings with little beetle's on them, as the Beetles had just made the charts.
