  1. When our eldest son was at Loughborough University he spent the first year in halls and then he and his mates wanted to move to a private rented house, like most students do. We decided to buy a 5 bed 3 storey house rather than pay rent to a landlord. All went fairly well for the years our son was there and then we handed over responsibility to the University for a few more years. We usually had to re-carpet every year, buy new beds every year (don't know what these students get up to in their bedrooms!), and buy new (actually secondhand) cooker, fridge-freezer and microwave every year before
  2. I've already congratulated you Melissa but well done again! Such a special day for you and your proud parents. We used NFU insurance when our boys passed their test, but it was nearly 20 years ago. We told others at the time and they all found that NFU were the cheapest, and you don't have to live on a farm to use them! Why don't you speak to Swinton Insurance and let them get various quotes for you? We're using them at the moment for car and house insurance (and get a cash-back cheque of varying amounts after 90 days)
  3. And I caught it every day for a year from bottom of Breckhill Road to Westdale Lane near Digby College, and return again in the afternoon. A friend at college used to get on the bus at Digby and get off at the top of Breckhill before the conductor came to collect her fare (EVERY journey and got away with it!)
  4. Love it ........ don't complain folks cos Winter's not that far away and it'll be dark, wet cold and miserable
  5. Good news Babs. Hope the sun is still shining for your trip to Skeggy
  6. Yep, we missed your humour Benjamin1945 and it did cross me mind you'd got fed up with us!
  7. Basfordred, that's stirred my memory when you mention Wheatleys. Although we lived in Netherfield when I was little my Mum always bought meat from Wheatleys, probably because my Granny lived near the Midland Station and we were always visiting her. One time we were in the shop waiting to be served and a big man came in dressed as a Red Indian Chief, frightened me to death and I remember clinging onto my Mum's skirt! Apparently he was a well known horse racing pundit, here for the Nottingham Races. Sorry to go off topic here!
  8. Smiffy49, I think the only club that was ever in the building was the 99 but that wasn't on ground level. The Forest, County and cricketers frequented the place.
  9. Certainly the best decade to be a teenager Andy
  10. Not a flag Michael but I still have a triangular metal badge when I passed. I remember all we had to do was ride around the school playground, I don't think we were taken out on the road
  11. I'd rather be young and not get State Pension, Winter Fuel Allowance, Bus Pass, OAP discount at hairdressers (although I never seem to get the right day for that) etc. etc
  12. Oops, don't start that one! That was one answer I got desperately wrong but didn't want to mention it!
  13. I only scored 21%. I underestimated on every question!
  14. 50 years ago I was 14 and still had 2 years to do at school and 1 year at Digby College. I'd only just started going into town with my friends and our weekly trip on a Sunday afternoon to the Bowling Alley was a highlight.
  15. It would make a good hotel again, being next door to our 3 big sports venues. They could put a nightclub on the top floor and call it the 99
  16. Lovely Compo! It's a pity a neighbour of ours doesn't have a wild flower garden like yours. This chap doesn't have a care about how his house and garden looks and this summer his front garden looks such a mess. His next door neighbour was telling me that he had been going round and mowing the lawn but not telling him, it was just a good deed. The chap thought his grass wasn't growing so sprinkled some wild flower seeds all over the lawn!!! What a mess it is now, lol.

Very good actor, enjoyed seeing him in 'The Notebook'. RIP James Garner
  18. Almost 300 years after Wollaton Hall was completed for the Willoughby family its design was copied for Mentmore Towers in Buckinghamshire, built for Baron Mayer de Rothschild in the 1850's.
  19. Oh crikey fch, your experience sounds so bad. So pleased you're back with us, at least you could remember your Nottstalgia mates eh?!! Look forward to reading your posts now, stay well
  20. Raining cats n dogs ....... just like Nottingham today !
  21. And last night at the meet-up we were also talking about the fact he hadn't been on Nottstalgia for a long time. Just hope he reads all these comments and starts posting again.
