  2. My two boys went courgette picking in their school holidays, (about 20 years ago), that's posher than spud picking by the way
  3. Best of luck Catfan, we'll be thinking about you mate!
  4. Oh forgot about the money ....... I got £1 for 7 hours on a Saturday.
  5. I worked in our local hardware shop from the age of 13. Not sure if it would be allowed nowadays at such a tender age. I served paraffin, firewood, paint and all the other paraphernalia normally found in such a shop. Left when I was 17 as I started a full-time job as a Secretary.
  6. Just about anybody could claim they were abused by these old men 40 years ago, nobody, including Rolf, Stuart Hall, Max Clifford, DLT and the rest of them would remember anything about it unless the offences went on for a long time. I can't remember a lot of what I was doing that long ago!
  7. Welcome to Nottstalgia Mark_A, thanks for posting the interesting picture, have you got any more?
  8. It certainly puts a different perspective on it when you can relate to personal experience Carni. I'm sure there are vile paedophiles walking amongst us wherever we may be. But in my opinion these cases of elderly television personalities being dragged through the courts 40 or 50 years on is a waste of public money. The victims have come forward because there is compensation to be had. They were most probably there at the time because they thought it was cool to have an association with a well known personality. Just think about it ....... it would not have been easy to get up close to thes
  9. Waiting for a NEW 'Nottstalgia' topic from you then Fynger !
  10. And no patting nurses bottoms or you'll be in court in 40 years time ......
  11. Sorry you're not too good at the mo Mike but at least you'll get sorted this time. Good luck with the procedure.
  12. I too feel sad for Rolf, as I do for all the other old well known personalities (except Jimmy Savile who we all agree was very odd anyway). It's been a witch hunt, all these victims jumping on the compensation bandwagon. I think we would all agree that in the 60s and 70s things were very very different and we all got away with stuff that is not acceptable or tolerated these days.
  13. The Tour is going through Thwaite, a hamlet in North Yorkshire where my cousin lives and owns rental cottages that have been fully booked since the first mention of the race being in his area. Great news for the area. Hope it all goes well for you down in Essex Firbeck.
  14. She's so good! But do you think she was really playing that sax?
  15. Was Midland Household Stores a division of GUS then Moz? I know the big boss when members of my family worked there was Sir Isaac Wolfson, do you remember that name? You wouldn't have been there at the same time I doubt, being a youngster (around my age) and all that!
  16. Just been googling, as you do on a grey Summer Sunday. The company that occupied Talbot House years ago was Great Universal Stores, GUS.
  17. When Chulla mentioned an Art Deco building on Talbot Street I did wonder if it was where my Granny (and my Mum) worked for many years. That's the place. I can't remember what the company was called but I think they were something to do with mail-order. I do remember the big boss being Sir Isaac Wolfson. My Granny started work there as a secretary in 1955 when she was left widowed with not a penny to her name. She worked until she was 70 and retired in 1968. My Mum went to work there when my brother and I were old enough to be trusted to be given a key and to behave ourselves when we got h
  18. Dint say it were!! Just thought the Basford UDC offices might have been there .......
  19. Well how about where the Basford Register office was, near Henry Mellish GS ?
  20. Residents of Clifton presumably pay council tax to Nottingham City Council, West Bridgford is Rushcliffe BC, Arnold is in Gedling BC. The areas that are defined as Nottingham pay taxes to Nottingham City Council.
  21. I've not been on a trampoline since I was at Digby College in 1966/67 when I remember one of my friends was barefoot and ripped her big toe nail off in the little holes on it. All that blood put me off ! But ...... I did go on a zip-wire through the rain forest in Costa Rica a couple of years ago. Now that was something else! So damn scary (got the video showing the fear in my eyes as I'm being hooked onto the wire) but I'd do it again tomorrow. Brilliant experience.
  22. We had kippers too Compo! And repeating kippers ......
  23. BulwellBrian, # 4 ....... Wouldn't 2 parts Hydrogen and 1 part Oxygen be water? I failed Chemistry O Level getting on for 50 years ago but that looks like H2O to me? Don't laugh you lot, I just want to be educated here!
  24. John Holmes is still at Radio Nottingham, he presents the Sunday morning show.
