  1. I miss darkazana's comments about this important time in our lives.
  2. Also the enamelled tin matchbox covers with pictures of a film star on.
  3. As far as I know the wild boar here in Brittany are not interbred with pigs. The ones I've seen close up are probably 60 or 70 pounds with the biggest male going over 100 pounds. Just hoping that they do not take up residence in my garden like they did 2 winters ago when they ripped everything up. The local chase' (shoot) are in our valley most week ends during the season and they do a good job keeping the numbers in check and ensuring their future health. I do worry when their dogs get though into my garden and I've had to have stern words with the shooters, who say that their dogs cannot rea
  4. I have a fishing mate we call 'Captain Blur'. At breakfast time when we are on a club trip he moves so fast that we can't see him. The reason for this is that he is the only one without a serious hangover. Hence the theory of relativity.
  5. O no he wouldn't! Because the other car has gone - at the speed of light.
  6. In Brittany, hunting with air rifles is illegal for safety reasons. Daftess thing is, they can shoot with a combination gun that has both smooth and rifle barrels. So here you cannot get hurt silently but you can get killed before you hear anything! Most of the shooters use smooth bore now tho', with big shot option for wild boor.
  7. Going to collect a guitar this morning from John Pye auctions Marchington. I see that their Nottingham HQ is in Shippo's old works. Do they hold a good auction there? The weekly ones in Marchington are well worth a visit. Guitar is a 'traveller' model for my son at about half retail price.
  8. A pal at the ROF married Redferns daughter. Met her a few times but name escapes me.
  9. Of course! Of course! - anything is possible. Like flat earth, the 'nothing faster than the speed of light' concept may become another archaic notion.....
  10. Just remembered - tanks being driven onto low loader lorries inside the North shop main entrance. Nearly all the tanks I saw were in desert sand camo. No new tanks. Kicked off a hell of a row and fumes inside the shop. Tanks were only in evidence for about two of my 7 years there.
  11. So a light from the back of one of the cars that is travelling at the speed of light will never catch up with the other car due to time, but relatively they are parting at twice the speed of light, which is impossible. Right?
  12. I can't remember seeing tanks on the road but there were tank track indentations on Kings Meadows rd. Maybe made when out on test or for a special occasion. Transporting the tanks would have been from the ROF's own rail spur.
  13. Dead right Benj. It does make you feel good having a suit made 'just for you'. I have sloping shoulders and off the peg stuff never fits quite right. Last suit I had made was in Singapore about 5 yrs ago. As I was leaving with my new suit the owner said "I have fitted a secret pocket for your smuggled diamonds" wink! Sure enough, a little pocket just inside the top of the trousers zip. So that personal touch is still about but the cost of tailoring in the UK is only for the wealthy.
  14. Can you explain that more clearly Chulla? - otherwise I will be going for a lie down with Colly.
  15. #226 Chulla Maybe the Big Bang theory will be consigned to the same scrap yard as the Flat Earth belief, as we discover a bit more?
  16. Where did the photons get their energy from to travel millions of light years before we observe them? Surely they will conk out at sometime?
  17. Had a couple of suits made by Jacksons the Tailor who were at top of Radford Rd., Just below the bank (now cop shop). I supplied my own cloth bought from a pub in Liversedge. 2 pc suit length 2 3/4 yards, 3 pc suit length 3 1/4 yards. Reputedly end of runs for Saville Row tailors but probably nicked Tailor was impressed with the quality. Can't remember the prices but certainly below ten quid. This was in the 60's of course when spivs were more honourable. This guy had a reputation to keep.or his regular pub sale on Friday evenings would have ended painfully.
  18. 'The Kiss' bronze sculpture by Rodin. Seen at the Nat Museum of Wales Cardiff. Stunning.
  19. It was just armless fun Jill...
  20. The last self employed tailor I saw was in Lagos. He was cycling along with a sewing machine balanced on his head!
  21. Chulla - that Morris 8 is exactly like the one I had. Same year and colour. It was the car I had when courting Mrs PP. I told her I had a sports car when we first met at the Palais. Well - it had an MG steering wheel that I fitted. Mrs PP had to use a brolly when it rained due to a very leaky hood.
