  1. I share Jill's fond memories of the library on Gregory Bvd. Wonder what it is like now?
  2. Just skinned a pheasant and plucked a duck. Last birds coming my way for a while due to avian flu. Have to make do with trout or maybe a hare. Love me game.
  3. Can't claim to having fallen down the stairs at tha Flying Horse but distinctly remember as a teenager letting a full pint glass slip out of my hand. Always ask for a 'handle' since. I often have to explain what a 'handle' is.
  4. Thanks for that one RR. Can't hear music but appreciate the dance moves and feel the beat.
  5. We all have dreams. As a youngster I dreamed of performing like Jerry lee Lewis. Honkytonking on the piano and screaming 'GREAT BALLS OF FIRE'. Women falling over when I hit the keys with my ass! It's still there. Thanks JLL for the dreams......
  6. You beautiful, intelligent, loving, caring, artistic, sophisticated woman of the world.
  7. Thanks CT - certainly brought back memories. My parents moved into one of those new house in 1937 and I was there as a new born baby a year later. When dad was called up for the army, mum had to give up the new house and move back to Hyson Green. A house on Speechley St (now demolished) so that an aunty could look after me while Mum went to work. I suspect that many families that moved to Aspley got cut off from other family members. Especially when the men were called up - child care was very much a family thing in those days and the women had to work.
  8. Thank you all for those nice wishes. As is usual on these occasions the wedding photo album was passed around. The wedding photographer was RobL's dad Our daughter put together a splendid diamond wedding album for us. A compilation covering our 60 years together with sections from family and friends. It was very touching.
  9. Nice day to finish up a four day weekend Started Friday when friends joined me on a trout lake which I book annually to celebrate my 'official' birthday. Saturday was our diamond wedding celebration where 4 generations of our family and some friends had a party in the local. 34 sat down for lunch then others joined us after. The highlight was giving presents to our 3 great grandchildren and toasting a loving and successful family. Yesterday I fished in our clubs 'fur and feather' contest in torrential rain. The last 2 hours were fine and the sun eventually broke through. I came 3rd but c
  10. All three houses that I lived in before getting married had Scullery (sculreh), living room and front room. Door to cellar under the stairs. Outside lav. No hot water. Front room only used when we had visitors and to listen to music when we got a Dansette. B&W telly in living room 1957. Phone in living room 1968. I left home and bought a new house with new bride Mrs PP 1962. Gosh - how times have changed.
  11. Oh!! Don't watch much telly - have lots of other things to do I do watch C4 news at 7, Also Breakfast on the beeb - usually when I'm rowing or cycling.
  12. This is a serious question - who are Phil and Holly?
  13. No. I would describe it as 'eerily warming'. The more calvados - the more eerie and warming
  14. Yes, but they don't use MY Calvados! 70% made from my own cydre. Drinking one now
  15. For a nightcap try a mug of drinking chocolate (no milk) with a splash of Calvados.
  16. Day one without Mrs PP - she's in Portugal with daughter and family. They are very understanding about me not wanting to go. Travelled all over for most of my working life and became totally jaded with airports and hotels. The thought of lying around on a beach or by a swimming pool makes me shudder. Hate crowds, queues - and old people Don't like sending the cats and dog to jail either. Spent the day bonding with dog and cats (they are missing her).
  17. The picture of the Penny Farthing also shows the Canton Chinese resto. Used that regularly in the 60's. It was one of the first.
  18. Good news Rob. May keep you off the bike for a week or two though Get well soon mate.
  19. Another great day today. No workout but I was at the nearby village at 8 to do the 'final fettle'. It was the cider making festival today and my press and scratter had to function correctly. Set them up yesterday but fine tuned, greased and oiled them this morning. Then off to the local private trout lake to meet a dozen or so members for a bbq and a bit of fishing on a boat. Back home at 4.30 for splash and dash before returning with Mrs PP to the cider making festival. 130 gallons produced so far and loads more apples to scrat and press. No modern or electric gismos - all human powered. No s
  20. I love eggs in any form - good job, being a chicken keeper. My 5 hens have gone off the lay and only get one or two small eggs a day at the mo. Phil - I'm with you re tripe. About the only thing I won't eat.
  21. Thanks BK - I don't push too hard - keep an eye on the HRM and learnt to read my body after decades of training. Recovery is the main factor - especially as we get older. Mrs PP is at the local art class as I type. Can't get her interested in any outside stuff though. I would have a go if I was not as busy.
  22. Had a few nasty periods this year. In hospital again with heart issues. Regular nose bleeds and coughing up blood. Near death experience with covid plus some bad days with arthritis flare ups. But I have got through it and today I feel great. Had chest CT scan last month showing an anomaly in upper right chamber. Anther scan due in Nov. This morning I performed comfortably well on the indoor bike and rowing machine. No breathing, heart or headache issues. Starting to enjoy the daily work out again. Life is good
  23. I had to deliberate about the Autumn booster after getting covid the evening of my first booster in April. Anyway - I'm going along with it and booked in for next Wed.
  24. Back on the bike and rowing machine this morning after a 2 month lay off. A garden project, hot weather and not recovering fully from Covid made me give it a rest for a while. Only did a 20 min bike and 15 min rowing session but quite pleased with how I felt. So, back in the old routine ....life is good.
  25. Doing things left handed is often due to the left eye being dominant. It runs in our family on Granddads side. My dad had difficulty using the Enfield bolt action rifle - having to shoot left handed - as I do as well. I'm a southpaw but I'm right handed. I deal cards left handed, as do most of my side of the family who are all right handed.
