  1. But they don't need them do they? Nowt to put in.
  2. No, not quite like your avatar swe62, the rather more sedate one with the missus on the back, the kids crammed in the sidecar and a big pile of stuff tied on the luggage-rack, lol.
  3. Mobilephonophiles ... ( and nattering at double volume too ) ... or text-twiddling, heads down getting in everybodys' way.
  4. Ant 'n' bleddy Decs not been mentioned yet!
  5. Yes I agree, she's alright Ann Widdecombe, a true character.
  6. This is the site in the early sixties. Hangers were a Ford dealer I think. http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM001398&pos=726&action=zoom&id=52844
  7. I suppose they got round the misnomer by the fact that it surrounded by castle walls. Its still been noted as a disappointment for visitors for many years though. In the summer, if me and the missus were in town we'd often get a sandwich and go in the grounds for lunch. You had to show id that you were from Nottingham. Last summer we were told everyone now has to pay and the jobsworth on the gate attempted to lecture us why. My wife shut him up pronto and we sat on the grass outside and watched the queue of Japanese going in.
  8. I thought we'd established there are at least eight women to every man and they are all stunningly gorgeous!
  9. Yes, these things are fascinating when they turn up aren't they. They must be the tip of the iceberg though, so many must go undiscovered.
  10. Weren't Atkeys on the corner opposite Machine Mart. The corner that's a car wash now (and previously a petrol station)?
  11. Great pictures Tim, I've really enjoyed looking at all of them.
  12. Yes, someone got their head up their arse a bit with the TV and Film, and I wouldn't rate the castle, plus you even have to pay to go in the grounds now. But 10 out of 12 ain't bad. Despite everything, Nottinghams still bleddy great.
  13. Yes, I remember poohbear. I'd mentioned that a river policeman had told me, early sixties, it was possible for a man to walk half-way across a certain section of the river, with his head above the water. He wouldn't say where, but I had an impression it was near to Trent Bridge. There were some replies that it was probably by Clifton Bridge. Looking at that picture, perhaps it was there and it wasn't dredged too deeply.
  14. No, I'm wrong with the Chequered Flag. It was next shop along, directly opposite Andy Bones.
  15. The Chequered Flag was the double-fronted unit just before the parked cars. As a kid, I used to drool over a white Jaguar XK140 they had in the window. #166 The garage that took over from Blacknells was Nottingham Sports Car Centre, it was fairly short-lived as I recall. You can just make it out on the signage.
  16. It's a shame the man's achievements can't be recognised without the usual smokescreen diversions. The fact that 35 million watched his funeral back in 1965, including myself, speaks for itself. So I'm done with this thread.
  17. Where were they, come stepping up to the plate time? And Wilson was still only 23 .... I like the 'joke' about the banker but it's not true to life. The banker takes all ten slices and tells the other two to f**k off!
  18. Are you referring to Harold Wilson? If so, I think the 23 year old Harold might have had a bit of a job on his hands. He didn't even enter Parliament until the end of the war. Who were the others who could have done better and where were they?
  19. There is no disputing that Churchill had his flaws, some of which he was happy to admit. There were also times during his career where his actions did him no credit. But there is little doubt that his leadership of the country during the war years and his inspiration of the British public showed what a truly remarkable figure he was. It seems entirely right and proper that we should recognise his great achievements on this anniversary.
  20. # 1984 & 1986 Had a lot of fun with the little submarine. Also in the Kelloggs cornflakes, same period, there was a number of vehicles you could make with inter-connecting parts. An open backed lorry, a car and bus I remember. We still have the Kelloggs cornflakes but no freebies these days, perhaps kids don't eat them?
  21. Well one pro, the end of my exhaust fell off once and dragged along the road. I was grateful for my tie. I tie-d it back up and it worked a treat. On another occasion my fanbelt went. Used the old tights trick ( not mine ) . Didn't work at all, and no tie on that occasion.
  22. I know, that is just an absolute disgrace. Whatever are things coming to. Next thing they'll be wearing shoes that aren't lace-ups..
