  1. If it was a tandem, they could still have someone to pedal it, and they could just sit on the back to maintain their dignity.
  2. Discussed previously http://nottstalgia.com/forums/?showtopic=8050
  3. In my previous life, I think I was a slave. Who says you've got to be reincarnated as something different
  4. I always remember the first pub I used to frequent, the Ferry Inn by the Ha'penny Bridge. A bottle of pop with a straw in and a packet of Smiths with the little blue salt bag. Be about seven. Magic!
  5. Sent out to the bin AGAIN by she-who-has-no-mercy. Snowing now.
  6. Pi$$ing down with rain in Bingham. Just been out to the bin a got a freezing drip right down me neck.
  7. I thought you were having a laff, just looked like an glittery bit of an umbrella on a lampost. Didn't see the second pic
  8. #18 I know what you mean, I resent subsidising the benefits system too. But with the taxes the governments robbed off me, I'd rather be supplementing someone grafting, than the lazy gits who won't get their arses out of bed and just sponge off society.
  9. Yes I agree, all credit to them. Don't forget many will be entitled to, and no doubt be claiming, a range of low-income benefit entitlement top-ups. And good on 'em too.
  10. Pay rates for shop assistants are minimum wage in most places, a bit better in the M&S's, John Lewis's etc. The worst bit is they're working on zero hour contracts more and more, so can't even rely on a guaranteed income. Then customers wonder why they look miserable.
  11. It was certainly one of the best offerings on the box so far this Christmas. You're right about Brucie, embarassing. Craig would give him a big fat 0 if it came to a vote, dahhhling. It's time he ( and the Beeb ) realised he's well passed his sell-by date. And..... he's on again tonight!
  12. Thanks katyjay, so it appears to be, I live and learn. It seems Colwick was transferred from BRD to Nottingham City in the thirties.
  13. But then what we all think it was it might add up to the place you thought it was originally, and wasn't, and we still wouldn't know the roughest place, according to your nephew. Bleddy 'ell.
  14. She kept the ironing board and the bungalow!
  15. A couple of Christmases ago, one of my wife's friends husband got her an ironing board. He didn't even wrap it up nicely, just said her present was in the garage. The divorce should be final in the Spring ( seriously ).
  16. Very interesting pictures, what sort of period would the map be. Also what does Basford R. on the map refer to, something to do with the railway presumably?
  17. Well, I got completely the opposite to you!
  18. Just doing my regular check on this thread - has he spilled the ruddy beans yet?
  19. Yes, Jack Brentnall's was on end of Goldsmith St for donkey's years. I bought an Eko Ranger from there 1968.
  20. I haven't watched any soaps for a long time. When channel-hopping I always know when it's Eastenders, absolutely everybody's shouting their bleddy heads off.
  21. I didn't think Dave Mann's been at that same site on Mansfield Rd for forty years. Could be wrong though. Basfordred mentioned knowing him in another thread, he might know. Anyways, no joy remembering your places name yet.
  22. Glad to hear everything went well Catfan. Yes, QMC has it's critics, but I've always found it brilliant.
  23. I can remember the shop, used to have saxophones in the window. It was about where Dave Mann's is now, possibly the same shop ( but not Manns ). I can't remember the name at the moment but it might come, I knew most of the main music shops.
  24. I've only been a member on this site a short while, but it seems like ages, Nottstalgia seems to offer so much. Friendly people, lots of humour, great memories and a huge resource of information about our beloved City. Thank you to Mick and everbody for such a great place to spend time. Merry Christmas to everbody and all the very best for the New Year. Best wishes Mike
