  1. Thanks Cliff and Chulla for your replies, but I've actually got one now. It's good of you to offer help - I appreciate it
  2. Katyjay, You say that Woodthorpe was mentioned in the Basford Bystander this month....... How can I get a copy of that? Can anyone on here get a copy for me for when I'm in Nottingham next week? Or can I get it online?
  3. Col #135 I presume you're not referring to your ear!
  4. I trained as a nurse, so I find your account fascinating, colly! Hope everything was sorted out for you..
  5. Who sang that? I know it started with "in a tiny house, by a tiny stream..."
  6. Welcome Tirkiz. Hope you'll enjoy Nottstalgia
  7. My Grandma was in a Nursing Home in Worksop when I was little, so we visited her every other Sunday. In the summer we stopped off near Ollerton (I think it was) and my brother and I played in the bracken with our dog after having a picnic. I used to get a bit bored at the Nursing Home after a while so I used to explore the gardens there which had lots of little paths. I can't remember what happened on the Sundays in between.
  8. I have a smallish tattoo which I designed myself on my upper arm. It is a statement of my faith - a cross with a living vine growing up from it's base and a dove flying from it. I also have 7 ear piercings and a nose piercing, although I rarely put a stud in there - they are so tiny, I keep losing them! They were all done a long time ago but I don't regret having any of them done.
  9. Or like the spoof stuff about Heathcliff and Kathy (Wuthering Heights) running in slow motion towards each other across the moor and never quite getting there
  10. Our 14 year old grandchildren found a Pokemon in their kitchen but don't think it was one of the rarer ones. There are 270 to collect I believe! If all these games had been around half a century or more ago, I think I'd have been tempted to play. At least those taking part are walking around and not sitting in their bedrooms all day............ dangerous walking on to the roads without looking up, though
  11. Katyjay, I must go and get some more glasses as I read your post as 'bite or BUM'. I scrolled back to find out who had a poorly posterior and couldn't find anything. When I reread your post I then saw it said 'burn'
  12. My Christian Faith A husband who loves me (and I, him!) Seeing friends, our children and grandchildren Opportunities to help other people in some way Good memories and few regrets A nice garden and being fit and healthy enough to look after it Going away for a few days in our caravan Strawberries, ice cream and chocolate
  13. Why don't you have a chat with your friendly neighbourhood pharmacist? (Not the person on the till!) They are very knowledgeable and will give advice on your meds and minor ailments. They will tell you when you need to see a doctor and when something can be treated without a visit to the surgery. At least that's the case round here...
  14. Do you two have a bit of a thing about Tenas? They do a similar sort of thing for men you know!
  15. I think you are probably younger than me, Banjo, if (19)48 refers to your birth year? If this is the case, then you would only have been 11 or 12 when I was 16 or 17! I remember a 12 year old girl who decided to join our group for a short time but can't remember any boys. But, as you say, we may have met at some point. I used to love all the little paths in the gardens - when I was very young, I used to play hide and seek with my mum there..... also in the 'dell' on the other side of the park, where there used to be stone built tunnels, little paths and rockeries, which I used to climb u
  16. As they used to say on one of the children's programmes: Whether the weather be cold Or whether the weather be hot, We'll weather the weather whatever the weather Whether we like it or not! Don't know why I even remembered that or, more particularly, why I'm writing it on here..
  17. I'm originally from Woodthorpe. Bit before your time though! I used to go on Woodthorpe Park nearly every evening in the summer but that was around 1959 - 60. My friends and I used to meet a group of (mainly) lads from Mapperley and a few from Sherwood. We used to take a Dansette player and records, sometimes jiving in the shelter that used to be near the swings. When someone got fed up with a certain record, they'd sometimes use it like a frisbee and send it down the hill. These were very special days for me..... I love that park
  18. #12. That's why I stopped doing the word games - kept seeing the same things going round again and again .......
  19. Chulla, that's good news. Does it need any intervention? 'Ultrasound' .....at least you're not having a baby!
  20. We, too, have strict Child Protection guidelines (which also includes those for vulnerable adults) in our church. Some of them seem a bit too strict, but we know it is necessary. I do the child protection talk before we start the Holiday Club at church - this includes such things as not picking children up, comforting a hurt child if necessary by only doing 'side by side' hugs, not joining in with any boisterous contact games, and of course not being alone with a child. If any of them need to talk 'privately' about something that is troubling them, we sit in a corner of the room but in full
  21. It was only released in 2009 I think, so unlikely to be on YouTube. There are some clips, that's all I could find The only thing that makes me feel a bit uneasy about these kinds of films is the strange relationship between the adult male and the female child. I know that the film is all about time travelling and the different kinds of relationships between 2 people of different ages but there were times when I felt a bit uncomfortable.......
  22. As I wrote a few posts back....... have any of you seen 'The Time Traveller's Wife'? It had a lot of similarities to 'Portrait of Jennie' and I really enjoyed it.
