  1. # cream in bolognese sauce.....yuk. As far as I know Bologna is responsable for its sauce. Isn't ragu french ( ragout) Did see something the other day about the difference between ragu and bolognese. Will have to look it up.
  2. I like that idea Plantfit but we can't get parsnips here. One year I brought seeds back and planted them , not one came up the mice got them all.
  3. Big or small lasagne Carni , think the arancino will fit into an envelope or if he wants two I'll pop them into a padded packet. Fried 15 at lunch time, my daughter and I had 3 each, gave my son 5 for his family, Alex had 1 and the other 3 hes taken to the trainee chef to try.
  4. Thought my husband would too but he spoken for
  5. Done some ready meals the last few days to put in freezer. Lasagne in varoius sizes and some Arancini. 40 of them. Did some at lunch time today for my daughter and I. But fried them outside. Beautiful day today we even sunbathed a bit. Can't upload photos as it says I'm only allowed 51.2kb.
  6. Your story reminded me of my mums Freddie fox, she talked to him and he used to put his head to one side to listen. I posted a pic of him somewhere a while ago.
  7. Yesterday , on a daily events programme appeared an advert. " Half price funeral with luxury extra's, if you pass away before the end of February" It was real and the owner of the funeral parlour argued that a funeral was the same as any other item in a sale !!! Who told him that.
  8. thought Kentucky was considered south. When I was there I could listen to it all day. Have a penfriend there we are still in contact after 60 yrs now.
  9. Love to Loppy. I can practice my kentucky drawl.
  10. Thats quite common Ben the English that worked with my husband used to tell all sorts of things to the Italians and they thought they were being helpful until they found out what it meant. My husband couldn't pronounce the words. Shirt, sheet and s**t and it got him into a bit of trouble. But he now speaks English better than me.
  11. We have them too but instead of trying to sell they say they are looking for ...so and so family. We are in the country in just a small group of houses. We all have dogs, well nearly all. But whilst you are explaining that there is no one by that name or you dont know where they live, they are slowly taking in their surroundings. There are often breakins around us including my daughter, who actually heard a piece of metal drop early morning. They had taken the centre out of the lock. She had the habit of not closing her shutters but now she does. They didnt take anything but had gone into all
  12. Ben heres another one if you meet any italians. Buon giorno, salve ( pronounce the e which makes it salveh) ciao ( chow) and to prove that you know a bit more , come stai or more politely come sta. They'll really feel at home.
  13. Ben it is lovely to be able to speak another language. Years ago when we still lived in Nottingham, my daughter ( who has beautiful big blue eyes) was walking through Boots and passed 2 young men. One said to the other " che bella ragazza" ( what a lovely girl) my daughter chuckled to herself and turned round and said "" grazie" the boys were dumbfounded. So sometimes its nice to know if people are talking about you
  14. Interested to see this in Nottingham as we have something similar here called "Notte in bianco" White night , but it means night without sleep. Everything is available to see during the whole night. There are stalls of every kind , street performers etc.
  15. Loppy, With my family, husband and son and daughter mainly english . My dil italian although she does speak english with a Nottingham accent. With my in laws always in Italian although a couple of neices speak english, french and one speaks chinese. I always speak in Italian with them though, don't know why, maybe because I've always done it. I sometimes answer my daughter and husband in Italian if they start to speak to me in Italian. Sometimes we dont notice that we are speaking in a different language. Other times speaking in english referring to an object or occasion etc we use
  16. I wish Loppy that I spoke to her in english and she understood, I would have said a lot more and reported her for her attitude but she didnt give me the chance. In any case the parcel arrived this afternoon with the usual driver. He saidhe was off on Thursday when it was supposed to be delivered and there was anew driver. So no doubt he went to the other street!
  17. Telephone operators who don't listen to what you're trying to tell them. I was expecting a parcel last week which turned out to be undeliverable because I believe the driver went to the wrong address. We have two roads of the same name, one is a street and the other a road. One in the historic part and one in the outskirts. But try to tell the operature and she just insists that the address if its correct thats the one it should be delivered to. Thats not the case as with this particular currier we always have problems. They don't have a navigator. We don't have problems with any ot
  18. Its rare that we can find smoked fish but we do get the more unusual fish so I'll experiment. Mrs Chulla and I were at school together and we often exchange recipes, in fact its about time we exchanged some more
  19. Must try it Mrs C but the problem is can't find smoked haddock very easily here. Will try Carni's adaptation.
  20. I remember you cos you're from R.o.t welcome back.
  21. Thankyou kind sir. You will have to try my sons restaurant. Alex is chef. Look on trip advisor or his web site. "Wine story" Castagnole Lanze. Asti or even my daughters, L'oca Giuliva. ( merry goose) I miss the friendly atmosphere that we had in Radcliffe.
  22. Yes Fly do tell. I agree theres much more to italian food than those mentioned. Every provence has its own specialities. Piemonte where we live is well known for good food and wine especially being close to Barolo and Barbaresco. Is Jamies Jamie Oliver. In Nottingham ?
  23. We are in the throws of San Remo fever. Started on Tuesday and we have to put up with it until Saturday. Don't say change channel as the fever affects other channels. Its only a song contest but the workup to it is unbelievable. They talk about what so and so is going to wear and what they are going to do. Who is going and how far theyve travelled to get there. They have film star guests and have the presenters of other programmes drooling over the male and female guests. Its really pathetic. one of the guests last night was Robbie Williams. Ear phones in and conversation was transl
