  1. Possibly but with a population of over 67 million it would have to be an awful lot of babies. We shall see. 15. Crime figures for burglary must be down, the same for car thefts. Whether that remains so post Covid I'm not sure. A lot of 'social' crime is opportunistic, can't see someone going into the wilds of Lincolnshire to snatch a phone or break into a garden shed. 16. And those pubs that do survive may me more profitable due to lack of competition and increase in patronage. 17. Many years ago there was a report on social interaction and the differences b
  2. This needs moving to the appropriate topic before we go much further...
  3. 1. Though a lot will unfortunately die I doubt the numbers will have a significant effect 2. I agree but the NHS will ALWAYS have shortages 3. Insufficient reserves in pension pots - I wonder who we can blame for that? 4. Probably 5. This is potentially a bomb waiting for someone to light the fuse 6. Germany will lead and France will follow, delighted the damn rosbifs have lost their influence. 7. The divorce rate will see a rapid rise when couples spend so much time in each others company they can no longer stand the site of their other half 8. An apprec
  4. The original Albert Hall was started in 1873 as a Nottingham Temperance Hall. Watson Fothergill, a local architect won the commission. On completion the building cost around £15,000 (equivalent to £1,338,900 in 2019),[1]. It was the largest concert hall in Nottingham and a major venue for political rallies but it had frequent financial crises. It was put on the market in 1901 and was bought by a syndicate of local businessmen for £8,450 (equivalent to £924,130 in 2019),[1], opening as a Wesleyan Methodist mission in September 1902. - Wiki
  5. He has been nominated and over 300,000 people have sign the petition. Well done that man...
  6. Good I'm glad but looking at the timing of your postings I'd hazard a guess you are robbing yourself of sleep so that's not helping Col.
  7. Words are rarely wasted LL. They can be brilliant, they can be nonsense but always they will inform, entertain or add value to the sum of knowledge. The can be descriptive, they can be seductive, they can be dismissive or inspirational and more besides - but rarely are they wasted. You are always welcome to chuck your threepen'orth in any time you like.
  8. Note I didn't say better informed, I said better able to judge. Having a lot of information, carpet bombed as you say, doesn't necessarily mean it's right, it means you have more to choose from. - more to accept or reject depending on your political leanings and opinions. Most people seize on something they agree with and go with it. The stuff they don't agree with is dismissed out of hand and scant attention is paid to it. If what someone says and does has an effect on your personal outlook or circumstances you tend to take more notice. You pay more attention. The does not always
  9. Tsk tsk how can you say that? not only has he made America great again he is genius and the best President the US has ever had. This I know for certain, he said it himself it so it must be true. Just a few hours ago he was saying he had saved hundreds, maybe thousand of lives, no other world leader has managed to do that. All this moaning about his fake tan, fake hair and fake news is not helping. Tonight I may go outside and make a noise for President Trump...
  10. You have my sympathies and condolences Deepdene...
  11. I've made my share of disparaging comments about Trump and his outrageous statements. Over there you see and hear much more about him so are better able to judge. Here we are spoon-fed with highlights and sound bites of his more outlandish comments. I still think he's a twonk though...
  12. Rule Britannia two tanners make a bob Three make one and six And four two bob..
  13. It's just a small aberration Trogg I'm sure it won't last and normal service will be resumed as a soon as possible...
  14. Beakcause he doesn't know feather the eggs will roll away if it's not level. It's no yolk shelling out all that money then making a cock up...
  15. I'm not surprised LL... two and a half hours is neither use nor ornament.
  16. The idea of apprenticeship rather depends on what we mean. The traditional 5/7 years of low pay and learning with a 'skilled' tradesmen has gone the way of the dinosaur. In my field they have realised electricians have absolutely no need to be able to construct a vector diagram, no need for Kirchoff, Nortons, Thevenin or even Ohms law. Custom and Practice has become so standardised in most industries a high level of underlying knowledge simply isn't required. The days of skilled machinists are gone, a CNC machine will be faster, cheaper and more accurate. There are many more examples a

  18. I wasn't an assessor but I was a mentor/supervisor and quite frankly most of certificates should have had multiple names on them
  19. It was a little harsh wasn't it... truth is I don't give it a lot of thought other than once a year when I make sure not to pay more than I must. I said in a reply, can't remember who too or what it was about, that I don't mind paying for education, health, some council facilities etc...
  20. Technically the majority didn't. It's a peculiarity of their electoral college system that gave him the presidency.
  21. It's me age guv, I couldn't for the life of me think of the dammed word' I'm not only delighted I'm surprised although I do recollect you have said as much in the past. Most people, if they are honest, support inherited wealth. We only have to look at the furore the subject raises to see that. Like you I pay tax, unlike you I resent every penny so no I don't pay up cheerfully and I'm careful to make sure it's one penny more than necessary. As for QE she is one of the biggest land owners in the world, something around 6.6 Billion acres. It is as you are aware m
  22. The levy system is still active. Any company with a payroll over £3 million has to pay .5% to the Apprenticeship Levy Fund. Last year the scheme had over £130 million unclaimed. The fault of government or lazy employers? You may well be right about the poaching aspect but we can hardly lay the blame for that at the door of government. The sad truth is as I've already pointed out is there no need for formal apprenticeships as in the days of yore in many industries. I was a little clumsy there. The point I'm making is that the government is held to account, the opposition c
  23. Col you will just have to accept they are rich unless you really want to rerun a 1000 yrs of history. Quite why you bother to ask the question when you know the answer. Why would I not stick up for them? I'm an unashamed monarchist. Would you really have the Dreadful Boris as president? I have no idea if you are plebeian or why you have no taxable income but I really can't see it's a good enough reason to be jealous and resent someone just because they have lots of money. Many who decry the rich claim they are not jealous but I think they are, what other reason do they have
  24. A surprising amount in taxes from their estates considering they have no legal obligation to pay tax at all. Even the queen pays tax on a voluntary basis and a rate a damn site higher than probably you do.
  25. Nonna can you get the video up on the screen and right click on the web address? ala- https://nottstalgia.com/forums/topic/612-easter-bunny/?page=2 Edit: oops, save the link after right clicking..
