  1. HSR thanks for the link to LentonTimes, found photos and information I haven't seen before, I even recognised one of the names . cheers.
  2. HSR yes there was a City Fire Brigade Station on Triumph Road, this was up until 1961-2. This was when Dunkirk Fire Station was completed and manned. The dates are as close as I can determine, hope that helps.
  3. Ben I know what it feels like, early autumn I sat outside on the High Street had breakfast and a coffee I must have sat to long and seized up, when it came to go I struggled to get up. An old lady, well she was older than me, came and helped me up thanked her but I was wishing the ground would open up and hide me.
  4. I just love Nottstalgia what other forum would allow the topic start on pronouncing place names and drift through other subjects to what type of butter you like and with such friendliness .
  5. Have to agree with you FLY its over lets look forward. Food shopping yesterday and we brought some hot cross buns, I love them toasted with lashings of butter , how do you like them.
  6. Beekay yo must av gon te Bestwood village , Bestwood Estate always open, gates av bin nicked.
  7. Ben what is this proper pronouncing and elegant eating thing, us Bestwood lads aint gorra chance av we.

  9. It means your normal, like the majority of this generation, celebrate the fact, from what happens now so I am led to believe stop the world I want to get off.
  10. Here is a couple more pictures for you Compo, showing hydrant posts and stop valves , On them you can see that the distance measurement to the main is the same. they were installed by the Water Board so as to enable them to isolate different sections of water main to enable them to work on them, such as to repair leaks, hope that helps.
  11. VJ pleased you liked Rob Rowlands work, I nearly brought the Master Cutler print but settled on A kind of Loving instead. I often visit his web site as his work revives old happy memories.
  12. Cities deserted on Christmas day, on the news there was an item on sales on Boxing day, it appears some "people" have been inline waiting for the shops to open since 4 oclock. Are they normal or is it me being a miserable old git.
  13. The wife and myself always stopped in the one on the way to my sons in Cheshire for a large breakfast, his wife was a very good cook , but she was a "healthy" food cook. It was our last chance for real food until we returned home. A sad day when they disappeared .
  14. FLY I thought you were intelligent, what do you think he is after, sorry Ben I couldn't resist the opportunity. Lets make this a season of good will, I am sure most of us would like the bickering to stop and return to Nottstalgia friendliness. Merry Christmas to you all, I am in luck today the wife is taking me shopping.
  15. There is going to be some very well dressed smart people in Bulwell soon, an upmarket image change for the town.
  16. DJ360 your wife sounds just like mine ,I am told whites on this setting etc , most programmes don't get used and with choice the final one is it has to look "right" in the utility room. I only made the comment to highlight the fact the final decision for me on what to purchase is made by the wife on the criteria she sets.
  17. Rev counter, peripheral speed, shaft speed , drum diameter ,horizontal axis drum , vibration levels all very interesting, I hope Ben will explain these to me , cos I aint got a clue. What I want to know is which is the best , so I can get the washing as clean as possible and dry so I can do the ironing and put it all away before SWMBO checks up on what I have been doing and meets out punishment. (again).
  18. Nottstalgia leads others follow. Cliff Ton and others are correct that others forums copy photos from Nottstalgia, the " kind of loving " photo of a print that from Rob Rowland that I posted the other day has just appeared on FB site " the original spotted Bestwood" strange ? So all you posters who regularly post these are the leaders and made Nottstalgia the forum for others to follow.
  19. That's what stood out on my recent trip around Bestwood, the privets were mostly over grown and the front gardens many you couldn't see as the privets were over 6 foot. At the end of the day I wont moan too much as it was my home estate.
  20. Bens Choir is in full voice I could never remember the words and sang out of tune.
  21. Has the last one brought memories back for you WW.
  22. Ben after reading of yours and DJs trip to Bestwood Estate I went up there today first time for many many years and I must admit the place saddened me . So much has changed and not for the better, half of the shops on Andover road have gone, and there is a general atmosphere that the place is unloved and uncared for. Times were different when we lived there it was our home and the place was generally looked after. I did smile as I passed a couple of houses , it must have been some thing in the air in the 60s.
  23. I have taken your advice, Fly here are three which I like ,the first is from Nottingham, the second is like a typical street in Nottingham and the third is a print I purchased as it reminded me of my early teenage years in the Broadmarsh area, hope you like them. They are all available from Rob Rowlands site.
