  1. I watched Utube early this afternoon it was a link to see my granddaughters graduation from Coventry Uni, she had a 1st in Business Management and Marketing. I was a proud old man. I already have one finished Uni and two other still there. I dont know where they received their brains from.
  2. Speak Russian Jill you must be joking, I used to be able to speak English but after being married for so long the wife has taught me (battered into me) how to communicate in 50s/60s basic hucknalese. So now I dont even understand myself.
  3. Ben I was concentrating on taking the photo with people walking past, then playing with the camera before chatting with the wife. When we went into Jeromes there was only the woman with a dog sitting outside, did you see it was me and run off, lol, my eyes need distance glasses to recognise anyone from that distance. Shame to have missed you, Bulwell is a great place for a coffee and a wander around, you never know who you will meet or miss.
  4. Here is a photo for Ben as he has missed his coffee here today , I still owe you a coffee Ben. Into Jeromes I had a black coffee and a real bacon sandwich with thick tasty bread and lashings of ketchup, to finish it off the compulsory cigarette. I am an animal, the wife said so. All this whilst sitting in the sun watching the world go bye. Then a walk along the Leen admiring the cleaniness of the water and the numerous ducks etc . Then off home , Bulwell town is a great place to visit.
  5. It appears normal now to never see the Doctor, if you are lucky after waiting eras for the phone to be answered you speak to the receptionist and if you are one of the chosen few and there is a spot left the Doctor will phone you late in the afternoon. Blood test sometimes the nurse at the surgery will do it but mostly you are given a phone number for another surgery to have an appointment weeks in the future. Blood pressure tests its do it yourself with your own machine or go to the surgery and use their machine . Prescriptions you have to tick what you want and then take it to the surgery.
  6. Dare I mention that some of the teaching from your favourite subject must have stuck in your memory.
  7. Great photo Clifton reminds me a times gone by, I had a Ford Zephyr as in the right hand corner of the photo. Mine was the 6 with a 2553cc engine, how did I afford the petrol, the best thing about it was the front bench seat, I say no more about that as I am now a happily married man.
  8. Mrs B the landline was part of the original package, no money off it if you don’t want the phone.
  9. Phil I am with Virgin for my internet and have received the same message that soon I must plug my phone into the router. The phone is with my internet package but I never use it for making calls and I only receive the occasional call on it, if it keeps Virgin happy, I am OK with it as I will never pay them any money for making calls on it. My sons package also includes a home phone he cannot remember the number and has never plugged a phone into the connection.
  10. Beekay I started at Bestwood in 62 as apprentice electrician I couldnt stand the classroom at Arnold and Carlton college so I left. Started there again on general mining early 64 on the screens then underground on haulage with me pony, left again mid 65 to join the Fire Brigade, so I followed you about for a while.
  11. Woody you are on about Jackos, the program was based on Jackos so the story is told. When he finally retired he lived opposite me, I often gave him some vegetables from my garden and you could guarantee the next day he would bring me some cakes he said he baked, he didn’t want to be in anybody’s debt. He was straight as a die , often chatted to him and his wife and had to laugh at stories he told us. Every body in Hucknall knew where Jackos was and whatever time it was he would be open.
  12. I cannot complain about my meal when I was out for the day yesterday Phil, I had a filet steak in a place called Bank over looking the canal . As a steak lover it was the best I can remember having and what made it even more delicious was my eldest son picked up the bill. I offered but he insisted and then the youngest son drove back whilst I slept in the car. I cannot wait till the grand kids insists he invites us down again.
  13. Today we drove down to the centre of Birmingham , never again, to see my eldest son and grandchildren near to where they live. The aim of the day was to see the canals especially Gas Street Basin, I have long had an interest in how they and the Railways were built, what a glorious area , Nottingham has a lot to learn, after a walk along the canal to the Basin and back the ladies left us for tea, it was cold and windy. My 2 sons, grandson and myself hired an electric boat to see the Canals the other direction, what an experience, a great visual experience and amazed on how grandson a 19 year ol
  14. I can remember going to Bone Mill many many years ago to purchase different types of chicken food, thats when i had an allotment and kept chickens.
  15. Plantfit that ride I would have to think twice about driving that far nowadays, even in the nineties I would require a pit stop in my car for refreshments.
  16. Beekay I feel sure it was a bowling green, I never fell asleep going to work as I was on Mackos buses. I did fall asleep on the loco back to pit bottom once but an old miner grabbed me to stop me falling out the loco and woke me up. there was much room between side of loco and tunnel I would have made a right mess of my clothes.
  17. Bestwood Miners welfare was a the bottom of the road on the left hand side looking up the road to the pit. I am not sure but I believe it is still open and run by the community. Beekay you passed it many times same as me when you either missed the bus or never had the bus fare.
  18. My first house was a mid terrace costing £1500, monthly payments £10-6-8 stood it for 2 years and purchased a new build 3 bed detached. I was told by M in L how stupid I was to go onto debt, moved in 3 months later and the price for them then was £8500, did I buy at the right time.
  19. I have to agree with your sentiments Miss Sparrow its a grave show some respect to the poor souls who perished there. Rubbernecking and using your phone to film all sorts of incidents is becoming worse nowadays, some peoples first instinct is to get there cameras working rather than offering assistance or phoning the emergency services , what a sad species we are becoming.
  20. I am glad you asked about Oxengate as I had never heard of it, I thought it might be my brain failing again, so to save embarrassment ,in old Bestwood talk I kept me g*b shut.
  21. Phil I been to Walkers before to repair one that I use to have they had the spares in stock and fixed it for me there and then, a great firm. I was amazed by the selection in stock, I could go and visit them now I have been reminded about them.
  22. Just a little information to make peoples life a little brighter anybody noticed the date, yes its that time of the year where the long days end and the darker night start drawing in. I love bringing a little ray of sunshine into your lives.
  23. Great to see you posting again Brew, I have missed you, there is a meetup next week you would make many people happy to see you again there.
  24. My first instinct was an air rifle but that thought was discarded ,not by me, so after some research I have done the following. I have put some thin nails along the top of the trellis and arch then tied thin fishing line joining them together and along the length of these tied short pieces of line. The theory of this is as the bird come into land the wind is blowing the short pieces of line about and the sun is reflecting on the line blowing in the wind and it scares the bird away, you cannot see the nails and line unless you know it is there and look for it. This morning was the first day wit
  25. My garden was looking good I was pleased after the saga with my arch ,trellis and replacement decking, even the ****** pigeons really love it. Hordes of them gather on it and they are so happy on it they all leave me with little present every time they visit. Well looking on the bright side it gives me reason to go onto it every morning with a bucket of water and a brush, there and underneath the TV aerial which over hangs the patio. Anybody have a recipe for pigeons.
