Beekay, my mother-in-law had a raised temperature. We said it was probably the car journey. The nurse suggested a walk outside (7 pm and freezing) Five minutes later and temperature normal, so jab administered!

Odd week for the mother-in-law (who would be if I'd married her daughter). Two nights ago fell over an old rug and burned/cut her knee on the carpet. Went round and cleaned the knee as best I could. One first aid course many years ago not much use. She refused to go to A&E - at 83 she"didn't want to make a fuss". Took her to the surgery yesterday. The nurse asked who had done the dressing, Dr Frankenstein? Arriving back, she found a letter offering her a covid jab. Went online for her (the phone line is useless, and she has never had a laptop) and she is booked in at Gamston Community

Too right, Col. Only had flu once - that was enough. For 12 years now I've had my 'flu jab. It's a best guess job - they check which strain is prevalent in the Antipodes, and work on that. Any vaccination, kids or adult, is a mixture of science, experience and faith. PS: just noticed my keyboard is playing up. Have to keep re-typing - is that just me? The only ten pounder I knew was a mate I worked with, Bob Woodcock. He went out in early 72/3 to join the prison service. Gathered he did quite well, but lost touch quite a while back. Hopefully none of you ten pounders will have met him professionally!

The flu vaccine is a new one every year, so the covid one presents no greater risk. So much experience and research goes into everything we take, it shouldn't worry us. In the last 6 months I've had the jabs for flu and pneumonia, a tetanus booster and currently on a five year programme of six monthly injections in the stomach as part of the Orion 4 project to try out a new diabetes treatment. Feeling a bit like a pin cushion. If no one signed up for these, no new stuff, however cleverly produced, would get out to people. having these jabs is a mixture of blind faith and the feeling that,

She gave me a Pneumonia jab, in the other arm, so they both ached for a bit. she told me that the Pneumonia jab will last ten years "unless Government advice changes"
