  1. HSR, if you're buying a new boat, you'd be looking at £1500 per linear foot. Then you have CRT licence, insurance, mooring fees, fuel etc, etc,.
  2. It's called, "keeping one step ahead of the law" Phil. Eleven jobs in all mate ! One of them had 3 different positions including shop floor and clerical office. Hope this makes sense.
  3. I worked in the tool room at Smiths for a while circa 1968/69. Just thought I'd throw in a bit of useless information. Don't think they made the foghorn, just the fittings that went on them. Eric Stokes used to work on them. When ready, he would clamp them on to a milling machine and connect an airline to the unit and test at about 120 psi. When fitted on board a ship they would work at 300 psi. Bloody noisy when standing next to one on test.
  4. We had a Jim Sullivan at Boulevard school, among other things he taught R.E. As a butcher's delivery lad I used to take his meat order to his home on Harrow Road, Wollaton. Don't know if it were the same bloke. :-)
  5. Alas, some of us don't have a store to walk to. That and the fact that a letter from HMG sitting on the table telling us not to travel, even to the pharmacy.
  6. I can really assure you Dave, it's not for the want of trying. Had a look earlier today and it only went to Wednesday.
  7. Hiya Margie, unfortunately I can't do much about it when it keeps coming as 'fully booked.
  8. This is all I've ever got from Waitrose...
  9. Can't get a Tesco slot down here. As bad as Waitrose. Both say same thing, "not available".
  10. Loppy, sounds like your Samsung is the same as mine. Nice units ain't they?
  11. You'd think with a name like King, I would have stood a chance. They still keep sending me emails of what's on offer!
  12. Been trying for a year now, without success to get a delivery slot with Waitrose. Surely they can't be that popular. Invariably Morrisons are short of something every time, but they and Iceland have kept us going.
  13. Yet another two examples of why I never use Amazon. And wouldn't touch ebay with a barge pole.
  14. Here endeth the first lesson. Be on the lookout for chapter two tomorrow.
  15. Ya can see his tail waggin' from yer !
  16. Can you keep up your emergency until I can get clearance from Whitehall?
  17. True, all true. I've even joined the Fenland Mountain Rescue Team. Emergencies only.
  18. I would say welcome to NS, but you've been here longer than me. Ruff !
  19. When I worked at Bestwood colliery, my older brother, who worked in 'High Main', the seam above, he was called in the personnel office and was asked why he only worked four days a week? His answer... "Well I can't manage on three". That's true, honest. He got two days suspension without pay!
  20. I'm afraid i don't understand a lot of this terminology regarding Facebook or whatever, where folks send clips etc. What's a 'blog or 'vlog and all the other phrases that are used. Still waiting for some kind soul to clarify "roadmap" out of lockdown.
  21. Morning Col, I was at 'Springhead' from early 1978 to late 1986, when it closed down. I should have been transferred to Eastwood Hall as a chauffeur for Mr. MacGregor, but it was decided that as I was staff status I'd be on more money than the driving pool, so thats when I had to go to W on D. The first time I went there was for an xray in 1958 as part of a medical for entry to the NCB. Between the xray room and the processing room was my domain, a lead lined dark room. The radiographer took the xray then put the cassette into a two way locker, and I was on the other side and retrieved the cas
  22. DJ, I have to add to that. When I was at 'Springhead' xray centre on Cinderhill Road, Boolwul, we were about to close down and i had been assigned to Wath on Dearne, near Rotherham. I asked my doctor boss where it was. This was his honest reply, I kid you not. "If you can imagine Rotherham being the arse of Britain, then Wath on Dearne is the suppository that been shoved up it" !!
  23. For those who didn't get a sticker, including me. When asked which arm, I said "my wifes".
