  1. The Clinton Arms was nothing anybody ever went to the Cock Hotel at Ripley dont know if its still there this was in the 60s sometimes the strippers did not show up and then there was a riot

  3. Anyone remember the big lumber yard which was on Broxtowe Lane behind the John Barleycorn pub i always remember seeing huge tree trunks stacked up there ,is it still there now?
  4. Anyone remember the bridge collapse o n the Basford to Kimberley line? It was the last small bridge before you enter the tunnel into Kimberley on Spencer dr. where i lived.Vehicles used the bridge before the collapse but only pedestrians after the repair was done which led to Van Gugtens greenhouses and Redfield House farm this would have been in the late 50s.

  9. Yes i remember midland mag my dad had a garage at Watnall we took a lot of electrical parts there to be repaired starters dynamos wiper motors they could repair anything in the 60s.

I knew Johnny Hobbs in the late 50s and 60s he would call in at our petol station at Watnall for petrol and repairs often walked by going to the Royal Oak or Log Cabin for a drink.Yes he did live on Newdigate rd. There was another musician Johnny Harrison also lived on Newdigate rd. He played in a band at the Commodore for quite a long time i cant remember the name of the band does anyone remember between 66and 69.
  11. Have you any pictures of your mgtc Phil there was this fellow years ago had one they nicknamed him the Earl of Bestwood and i had the pleasure of keeping it running he was in the young conservatives back in the day.
  12. Did you get the keep fit starting handle like i had in my moggy the lift forward seats were also a bonus.
  13. In Canada we can get the m/s tyre with cleats installed they are noisey on dry roads but exellent on ice and packed snow
  14. What are keep fit windows are they the plastic demister panels that were self adhesive a real pain to keep on the wi dows.

The wifes cousin John Parkin batted opposite Gary Sobers when he hit six sixes i think it was against Glamorgan he lives in Kimberley and played for Kimberley Institute Cricket Club in the 60s before playing for Notts.He still takes care of the cricket field today at 76 years old. He is mentioned in the book Six Of The Best, he is also president of KICC.

Used the old fosse way to go to Torquay and Devon in the 60s before the motorways were built it was about a 6 hour trip but enjoyed every minute,right from getting the car seviced waxing the car installing a roof rack and enjoying the country side to what seemed a journey to the end of the earth,great times. I took the same route as FLY2s dad did.

  20. The only MK2 Jag i ever drove was when i parked them in my fathers car repair shop if they stayed over night drove many different makes the rarest was a 1958 Facel Vega.My father did eventually by himself a MK2 JAG it was his favourite car.
  21. Phil was this the F type victor which had the tail pipe coming out of the bumper, i worked on lots of those looked like a minature chev.

If i remember right BSM was just above Victoria station same side i cant remember the simulator i did 5 lessons there after the fifth went with their car to Basford to do the test i was surprised i passed the first time it seemed very strange driving alone. I also had a Morris 1000 which i bought 3 months before i passed my test i went for driving practice with my grandad around Players at Radford.
