I was reading on another thread that Chulla and someone else had elevated psa levels,i had the same thing 6 years ago i went for a biopsy they took twelve samplesehen it came back one looked suspicious on the edge.The doctor told me i could leave it as is,have radiation or remove the prostate he said if i had radiation and that did not fix it i could not get it removed so i decided right there to have the operation.It took 4hour and they did it laprosticlly iwoke up in the recovery room taken back to the ward and 1 hour later was walking around the hallways the next day i went home the only dr
  3. I seem to remember an advert on tv for victory v lozenges they had song that went,its victory weather again this was repeated i cannot remember the rest of the lyrics.
  4. I thought they did not taste as strong as years ago may be no more chloroform in them i have not passed out yet its the toothpaste in them thats making my teeth last.

  7. Yes i remember the fastest lap contest quite a few cars got damaged dont know if your car insurance would cover it.Can anyone remember Reg Saul and Fred Strecker driving the car through the wall of fire with Reg Saul laying on the bonnet.

The ratings for the different colour roofs were based on points scored during racing 1place to 6th place the gold roof was awarded to the winner of the world final the silver was for 2nd place.The red roof was for star drivers,blue tops were next then yellow tops and then white tops was the bottom grade,the racing always started with white tops at the front followed by yellow blue red and gold,the only time this changed was for the world final when it was based on points earned from the qualifying round regardless of roof colour.

  11. Hi Tom this is Ian so sorry i did not reply sooner iwas just reading againthe Major Barber thread,yes i live in Regina Saskatchewan my sister lives in Kamloops BC. Regina has extremes in weather very hot in summer and extremely cold in winter a bit different to Eastwood. Do any of your relatives still live in Moorgreen/Eastwood area?did you know Charlie Hanson i lived at the side of them when i was a child he was l think part owner of the brewery in Kimberley, he lived in a big house on Watnall rd.Nuthall called Nuthall Lodge it was demolished in the late 60s l remember going to garden fetes
  12. Yes it could have been Barkers it was a very popular brand back then it could have been under the United Yeast umbrella even Blanchards the bakery at Watnall which was taken over by Spillers the Millers to become Wonderloaf all one big company dont know who is left now.

I think when i went by this building on the bus to school it was a small co.op or small grocery shop,a friend of from school Roger Taylor whose family had a farm there i would help them with the harvest.The Yew Tree is on the main road heading towards Underwood the Black Horse if my old brain is still working ok is at the far end of Cordy Lane heading towards Underwood Hill but like you say its closed down just like the pits.

  18. Iam still working at the same place i started at in 1971 after i emmigrated to Canada i am a millwright in steel pipe manufacturing plant i still swing sledge hammers repair overhead cranes iam starting to slow down a bit now i will be 73 in January dont feel too old yet.
  19. Thats the pub Stuart.C great job has not changed much thanks,the Sandhills at Underwood was it just past the MGO garages on the right hand side heading towards Selston i remember going by it on the B3 bus to school in Alfreton in the 50s.

  20. What was the name of the pub on the road from Ilkeston to Stanton possibly went to the iron works it was on a steep winding road and the car park was above the pub you had to go down quite a few steps to get in the pub it was along time ago 1964 played darts there.

Hi DJ360 here are few local drivers who were racing in the mid 60s Laurie Hooton from Long Eaton Ian Barker from Toton,Fred Wallis from Netherfield,Martin Ball from Oxton area who was the shop foreman at Cripps on Triumph rd.Dave Fox from Bleasby,Nev Hughes from West Bridgeford who had a garage on Trent Lane i brought a trailer off him to tow my stock car on,and Brian Powles who was Nevs mechanic also raced a stock car

I knew Albert Griffin very well he had a chev 348 cu.in turbo thrust engine with 2 carbs on it no turbo that was what chev called that engine when the pit officiales saw it on the engine they were confused thought it did have a turbo which was not allowed.In 1965 he sold the car to the famous Stu Smith.He retired in 65 due to business commitments and not in the best of health.
  24. I raced a stock car there in 64-65 great times but very expensive still have lots of magazines and books from the 60s.I use to go to Coventry and Belle Vue its too bad many tracks have closed down.
