Ashley/Firbeck The map is dated at 1890

Ashley I presume you are referring to Meadow Lane football ground, I would have expected to see it shown on there by the time this map was drawn up. Zoom in on the track arrangement and you will see the anamolly whereby excursion trains from Midland Station to the East Coast had to reverse back from Sneinton Junction into Low Level Station where an ex LNER loco would be waiting, the time I remember doing this it was a gleaming K3, the whole operations had to be repeated on coming back from the day trip, I would have thought it would have been a fairly easy exercise to install a set of points

"friends burial ground"? (Ashley) 1886 July 1st Annual report of Public Parks and Burial Grounds Committee records the acceptance of Walnut Tree Lane Burial Ground (disused) from the Society of Friends as a public recreation ground. It has been placed, with Mount Street Burial Ground, in the hands of the Kyrle Society. [Founded 1877 by Octavia Hill, for conversion of waste land into gardens and similar objects; named after John Kyrle, 1637-1724, "the man of Ross", philanthropist, amateur landscape gardener, etc.]

Hi Ashley No didn't go to the White Hart but did know a few lads that had motorbikes - Alan Watson, Malc Warrington, Ron Buckley, Stu Spenlove, do you know any of them. My boyfriend at the time(now my husband) couldn't afford a motorbike only a Lambretta. Val

question for ashley, you have survived being a biker since the sixties but there must have been hairy moments, close misses ect, which ones do you remember.

Hi Ashley Walking into Beeston this morning who should we bump into John Greenfield and his wife Elaine, Re - your photo on the 10th Feb. Have told him about the forum. He has still got a couple of bikes one of which is a Harley. He went down to the White Hart last week. Val

They still do. There are two Walls of Death in the UK, one of which was owned and operated until fairly recently by a chap from Skeggy called Graham Cripsey; long-time snooker fans may remember the name and yes it is the same bloke. The other one's run by Ken Fox, here's a pic of my missus (Indian fanatic) on one of his Scouts at Carmarthen a couple of years ago; There are at least two Chiefs up and running around Notts to my knowledge. Ashley, you're right about the Brave; 250 side-valve single, one of many failed attempts to get the Indian name up and running again. Still one or two a

Ashley, you mentioned Mick Marriott in a post above; just wondered if it might be the same guy I knew in the early 80's, long hair, played guitar in local bands, lived in Hyson Green flats? Mick used to be pally with a guy called Eric, long blond hair more a rock type than a biker; think he was a guitarist as well. Ring any bells with you?

Ashley , that looks just like one my mate Shane (real name) had. He couldn't hack it so decided to flog it . He attached a ' Black and Decker' drill to the front wheel to attempt to wind the clock back , came back from the pub 2 hours later to find, one knackered B and D and a bike that had done 3/4 mile less than when he started. He tried again with a new B and D next day ,this time we all sat in the sun , having a Barbeque and supping , when the next Band D gave up after an hour it had taken off just another 1 1/2 !!!!!!! at least he got his money back for the B and D under warranty !!!

Ashley, the last time I heard of him he was being chased across Canada I think by some irate husband. Remember Les Clarke had a semi kneeler outfit with a BSA 650 motor riden by Ray Waplington and passengered by Stan Goodman, won quite a few races at Darley Moore, I remember welding a kneeler outfit frame together for him out of 1" box steel and he fitted an Hillman imp engine when the first water cooled four cylinder jobs came into being, sprayed silver I think and it's first outing was Darley moor Rog

Now you've kicked me grey cells into life Ashley, I take it you're talking about "Tut Tut Tony" who had a workshop near to Les Clarke's at the top of Alfreton road in the late 60s early 70s? Rog

Hi Ashley, The Standard Ten was produced between 1954 & 1961. Your registration was issued in Staffordshire in 1958. The pick-up would be interesting but not valuable, most expensive Standard Ten (saloon) recently in auction was a shade under £3,000. The number plate would advertise at £3,000 also - but in the days of 'the crunch', perhaps would not easily sell now. -

Ashley, yep, that Graham Asher! I also havent seen him in years! Re Terry Flynn, he stood on the door at The Dungeon, I hear he died a year or so back, but could be wrong. As for the music policy, the club changed to 8 till late, and another name thats gone out me head, so different music could have been played. And no, I didnt watch Quadrophenia in b&w!! I remember going to the Savoy to watch it many times when it first came out in 79.

I suppose that says it all about the modern attitude to the enormous Bomber Command Sacrifice,Ashley. Whilst I agree it is horrific to see women and children slaughteredby the Israel armed forces their deaths are usually quick. Compare this to say the lot of a 19 or 20 year old boy aircrew member. 1. He has to fly a minimum of 30 missions . 2 He has a 1 in 20 chance of being killed each time he flies. 3.If shot down,he has a 1 in 10 chance of reaching the ground alive. Little wonder that very few aircrew came out alive, and those that didwould have been mentally scarred for life.

Ayup Ashley, It is against the law to repair, service, maintain any gas appliance unless you are Corgi registered, if anything were to go wrong (god forbid) you could end up being charged with manslaughter or even murder Rog
