  1. This is part of a Radford street map posted some time back...1920s I need the area to the right of Ilkeston Road....Cobden street/Salisbury Street area. 1920s would be great...but any other periods from 1890s to 1930s would be of interest.....Thanks.
  2. A couple of years ago I downloaded this image of Radford. It is quite low resolution (I reduced it a bit more for uploading here). I think it was from Picture the past as I can't think where else its from. I would now like to order the full size image as it contains where I was born, lived and worked for 36 years. Problem is changed the title when I saved it. I have searched P the P using various search terms for hours and hours and worn my eyeballs out and just cannot find it again. I know its a long shot (no pun intended) but has anyone here seen it before or knows where its from please.
  3. Greetings all. A few pictures of the exterior of the baths from recent days below but the main reason I'm posting is the owner of the site - despite it being in a conservation area and the Mills being nearly 200 years old as well as hosting the first and oldest washhouses in Nottingham has applied to demolish the lot. Needless to say it's a private property development company. To have any chance of saving it objections need to be in (by email is acceptable) by May 31st, 2011. A quick google search on Forest Mills Radford will bring up a fair few posts and pictures of most of the complex b
  4. I have got an old ordnance survey map of Radford in 1901 which shows Radford Colliery. I was wondering whether anyone knows when this pit was sunk and when it closed? All I know is that it was owned by the Wollation Colliery Company (is this correct). The map also shows that there was a wharf on the Nottingham Canal called Babbington Wharf near to Wollaton Road just west of Radford station which was connected by a railway which headed due north, does anybody have any ideas of where this railway went? I know I'm asking a lot but this has aroused my curiosity somewhat
  5. Inside Out Marie Ashby investigates whether it would be cheaper to knock down some of the region's high-rise flats rather than try to improve them, and screenwriter Billy Ivory pays tribute to author Alan Sillitoe

  10. Hey all, doing some research on Radford Baths, got a couple of questions you might be able to help me with: Does anyone know when they actually shut? Even better has anyone ever been inside that could tell me about it? Even better than that, does anyone have a picture of the actual pool? Cheers
  11. This was my local line when I was a kid, we used to meet up at the black path railway bridge at the back of Firbeck Estate and watch the trains go by, not that there were that many, even in the 50's and 60's. I've heard once again, that this line is being considered for closure, is this true, has anyone got any information on this, it's been talked about since the days of Beeching, but it always managed to survive. I took my son for a nottstalgic walk along the canal from Wollaton to the site of Trowell Moor Colliery the other day, which follows the line of the railway. I was very surprised
  12. Radford Rambling P1 Hi Nottstalgia what a great site for remembering things about Nottingham and in particular Radford. I was born at 16 Forster Grove, Radford in October 1944 and lived there for 19 Years before moving to Gedling then Bramcote then Wollaton before moving to Western Australia in 1988. I visited the web site picturethepast and was amazed to find a picture No:NTGM000723, of Forster Grove, (amazing that someone would take a photo of it) the house was a 2up 2 down shoe box with no bathroom, no hot water and an outside toilet, we had a tin bath hanging on the wall in the back y

I can remember while at Sidney Pearson Hill school in the 70s the filming of some scenes for an episode of Z Cars.I recall there was filming on Denman Street just below the corner with Dulwich Road and also around the entrance to the Sidney Pearson gates at the rear of the school. Can anyone remember this and if so the title of the episode, Thanks. Mark

  17. noticed this pub looking a little sorry for itself while driving by a couple of months ago, in fact the pub in its demolished landscape reminded me of pictures of the (shameful) redevelopment of areas of nottingham in the 60's/70's i only ever had a pint once in this pub whilst on route to the variety club, which was about ten years ago-ish
  18. Music and sports stars will help launch the city's first licensed urban music radio station in Radford next week. Nottingham-born footballer Jermaine Pennant, who plays for Liverpool, and Forest star Julian Bennett will attend the opening ceremony for Kemet Radio. Soul stars Kele Le Roc and top-ten artist and Urban Music Award-winner Omar will also grace the red carpet before performing at a launch concert at the Royal Concert Hall. The station, on 97.5FM, has a community radio licence until 2012 and will broadcast a 24-hour blend of urban and black music, with local, national and internati
  19. Does anybody have any old photographs of Trafalgar Street area in the late 1950's to 1964? I used to live at 46 Trafalgar Street during this period and attended Berridge Road Junior and Secondary School. Are there any books on Old Radford during this period? Thank you. Geoffrey
  20. Is the big JP factory still operating near Clifton Bridge??? I commissioned the air conditioning fan motors during the construction of that place. It was years ahead of it's time, generated it's own electricity with six 0ne megawatt gas turbine driven alternators from natural north sea gas piped in via a four foot gas main.
  21. On this map can be seen old pits north of Radford Woodhouse. The radford station can be seen at the junction of Ilkeston Road and St Peters Street. IN THIS MAP NORTH IS LEFT
  22. This map dated 1920 show what changes have taken place in Radford over the years. In 1965 I lived near the Northeast corner of Norton Street/Hartley Road. (in this map north is left) The south east corner at that time was mostly waste land with a big old house. The map shows other buildings, can anyone tell me what they were or when they were demolished? Walking along Norton street from Hartley Road toward Independant street, the Large penultimate building on the left, I believe was some kind of church hall were the Bucket Bashers used to meet. What are your memories of these long demolish
