poohbear 1,360
With terrorism and human error I would never ever get on a high speed anything.I've always felt this way since this obsession with high speed land travel became popular. I'd rather get where I'm going safely and an hour later thanks.
tcripwell 4
The Spanish authorities are being tight lipped about this but they did say it was not mechanical failure.
darkazana 1,736
Police are investigating the driver on the latest news. So dreadful for all concerned.

NewBasfordlad 3,599
According to the news they were running 5 minutes late, makes you wonder if someone was trying to make up lost time.
barclaycon 569
Looks like it was just too fast! I heard on the news that it was travelling at twice the speed it should have on that bend.
fch782c 144
Just heard on the late news that the driver has been arrested in his hospital bed
mick2me 3,033
News reports last night that there should have been a device on the track that cut the trains speed prior to the crash without the driver having to do it.
NewBasfordlad 3,599
As I heard it Mick there is also a trackside device that flags up to the driver when they come to a speed limit zone if the train is travelling over said speed limit.
mick2me 3,033
Perhaps the driver thought leaving it to the train to regulate its own speed based on the known location of the safety device. It will come down to what guidelines he is given by the company or none as the case may be? In the UK we could be looking at 'Corporate Manslaughter' with 'Vicarious Liability' for company directors. But in France???
