mick2me 3,033
Thanks Bamber. I am sure there will be some comments about the vehicles and there locations.
colly0410 1,181
Thanks for the link Bamber. When I was a kid (60's) the corpo buses going to the Mapperley area from slab square used to have a strange whining noise, anyone know why?
Michael Booth 7,364
It may have been some chap getting told off by his wife....lol
notty ash 372
Thanks for the link Bamber. When I was a kid (60's) the corpo buses going to the Mapperley area from slab square used to have a strange whining noise, anyone know why? It was a characteristic of AEC buses - Leylands always had a growl.
pwatmo 3
In late 1964, we were living in Hucknall and has both Trent (Red) and Notts and General (Blue) covering the area. I went to school in Sneinton Dale and caught a Nottingham Transport to Parliament Street Station and then a Notts and General to Hucknall. At that stage there were still trolley busses running to Bulwell.
Cliff Ton 10,479
I think the link had been posted before - but worth seeing again - and I'm stuffed if I can find it; probably StephenFord. So to take it one step further, here's a link I'd posted before to someone's Flickr site with an amazing number of Nottinghamshire (not just city) buses. http://www.flickr.com/photos/8050359@N07/sets/72157603923450406/
ChrisB 150
I love looking at the locations. That lot should keep me quiet for an hour or two!

carni 10,094
Good Morning All HELP, When i click on Stevens link on #9 all i get is a Back Screen, any ideas?
Cliff Ton 10,479
It's not quite a blank screen, it's just sound, no pictures. You should be seeing a blue bar with white numbers. Make sure you have your sound turned up before you go to that link again.
carni 10,094
Thanks, had the sound off, not to wake others in the night.
bamber 128
Stephen Ford take a gold star rec for that audio clip. I can smell the leather upholstery and the whiff of BO and Woodbines upstairs. Even the tickets had their own particular pong.

colly0410 1,181
That sound clip is exactly what I mean, thanks for the link Stephen. I presume the whineis from the gearbox or drive train. I lived in Chester-lee-street for a while when I was a kid & I loved going to the market square to see & hear all the buses that used to be there from surrounding towns & Cities: Northern General, United, Hall Brothers & others I can't remember. Oh & the bright yellow Newcastle corpo buses..

bamber 128
Colly 0410. Did you "Shop at Binns"?
colly0410 1,181
Colly 0410. Did you "Shop at Binns"? I'm sure we did, I can remember seeing Binns up there & Binns adds on the buses. I went to the local co-op, when they asked for my number I said "11xxxx they said "that's wrong they've only got 4 figures" I'd given them my Nottingham co-op number, we had a new number up there but I can't remember it. When I started at school up there all the other kids wanted to know if I knew Robin Hood?
colly0410 1,181
My Mother-in-law who lived in Bulwell & worked in the city centre would only travel on the no 7 motor bus as the 43 or 44 trolley bus electric smell & Basford gas works smell made her feel sick. What a wus..
StephenFord 866
The gas works I can understand, but the electric smell ? "Owdyertightmiduck..."
BulwellBrian 107
The trolly buses certainly had a distinctive smell very different from motor buses.
colly0410 1,181
She's always moaning about smells, when we was in Lanzarote & they had the drains up she chuntered about all through the holiday.
