Merthyr Imp 729
A Historic Wales photo: Cyfarthfa Castle, Merthyr Tydfil. Pronounced 'Kuh-vartha', it was built as a residence in 1824 by the owner of one of the local ironworks. It is now a museum. Photographed in March 1995.

Guest
Great pictures gents, had many happy trips to Oban with my late Father; especially with the RCTS. One trip I remember was the Lincoln Castle paddle steamer in New Holland- Little Bob Story played alive on deck.
FLY2 10,108
Great pic of the 37, these engines were fantastic performers on the Highland lines. Though not as good as Black Fives, B1's or K1's and K4's.
Merthyr Imp 729
The Stonebow in Lincoln photographed in about 1968. Looking at it these days it's difficult to imagine double decker buses once ran through it. I can just about remember when two way traffic ran through it (there must have been traffic lights) but in the 1960s that part of the High Street leading to it was made one way, and now of course it's long been pedestrianised.

Merthyr Imp 729
An Historic Scotland photograph - the cemetery for soldiers' dogs at Edinburgh Castle, photographed in April 1998:
Merthyr Imp 729
Another Historic Scotland photograph, again dating from April 1998 - the statue of Greyfriars Bobby in Edinburgh. You can't tell from this close-up, but it's about life size.
MargieH 7,600
Loved the story of Greyfriars Bobby - still got a VHS tape of the film (we still have a VHS player somewhere!).
Merthyr Imp 729
If you ever go to Edinburgh, Margie, you must visit the cemetery, where you can see his master's grave, and there's also (at least there was in 1998) a small sort of museum where they have a picture of Bobby painted from life.

plantfit 7,597
Bobby's grave is always well tended,I heard an American lady provides money for there to be fresh flowers on his grave,It's the first headstone you see when you go through the main gates, I have a picture somewhere,I'll put it on here over the weeked, I also heard little Bobby slept on the wrong grave after his masters death, not his masters grave Rog
FLY2 10,108
There was once a diesel locomotive named Greyfriars Bobby. I presume it was based at Haymarket, Edinburgh.
