DJBrenton 738
I find it sad that so many of you have so little compassion. Many of these people have escaped war zones ( of course they should have stayed and been killed). There are several reasons why so many want to claim asylum here rather than in France. Firstly, most of them will speak at least rudimental English rather than French or Italian. It is the most common second language after all. France is far more racist and unwelcoming to immigrants even though (or because) they take more than we do. Believe it or not ( and I'm sure some won't as it doesn't correlate with them 'all coming here for the benefits), Asylum seekers in France get 336 euros a month compared to 185.90 euros here. Unemployment in France is far higher than here though. The fact is that the vast majority are not criminals or layabouts, they just want to work in a country that's safe and that is (you should all be very proud to know) considered one of the best and most tolerant. Taking single examples and then acting as if they are representative is wrong. Of course there are good and bad people in every part of society and the world. But some of you are characterising immigrants completely unfairly. Take Micks post about the interview. He as good as suggests that the guy must have been up to no good if he had trouble with the mafia. For all we know the mafia are preying on immigrants with money or trying to recruit them, but to some there can only be one inference. He's obviously a criminal type if he's had trouble with the mafia. Of course it's possible but it's not the conclusion any fair person would jump to. This is the sort of nonsense I object to about the immigration debate. Of course there are problems associated with immigration but frankly some of you are just frothing at the mouth over very small numbers who cause problems and acting as if it's the majority.

mick2me 3,033
Most people are sympathetic to the plight of people fleeing war torn countries. But there are at least two sides in a civil war and they are usually both the same nationality. They will fight in their own country, they will fight in ours. There are also many countries with civil wars or trying to fight IS. The IS are often their own countryman. One thing should override everything. National security and that of our citizens.
benjamin1945 16,182
Might be getting my 'Biblical' quotations a bit out of context but, does'nt it say somewhere.......'Man shall live as nations, and keep within their boundaries'?

Blondie 1,392
I do feel sorry for these people as they are only looking for a bettter life, but we cannot take them, we are so overcrowded already and most of these people have a chip on their shoulders and only want to make trouble and live off us............They should be sent somewhere else, after all this is what happened centuries ago when people were looking for some Country to settle, they usually found somewhere and started a new way of life for themselves in colonies, why can't they do this now, there must be plenty of uninhabited plasces around the globe for them to settle in.......Maybe they could be helped by other Countries joining together to help get them started, we certainly cannot take anymore........
FLY2 10,109
I'm sorry, it must be me being a snobby bugger. I don't feel sorry for them. Bilbraborn 1,594
I've read all your comments but I am not in favour of mass immigration. It is not about what they contribute . How many times do we have to point out that this country is rapidly getting very overpopulated and we cannot keep letting people in no matter who they are. Africans and Asians tend to have too many children which is bad news. Also there are too many criminals coming here. Most British people do not want to belong to a different culture but that is how it is getting. And sorry DJ. I disagree about our people not wanting to work. I work in many different places and see heck of a lot of British People working very hard in thankless jobs such as care homes. Like most people, I feel sorry for them but this country many years ago had repressive regimes even Fundamental Christians which was nearly as bad as Isis, but over the years the common man stood up to it. They really must do the same. I know it's hard, but overpopulating other countries really is not the answer.

catfan 14,793
Your facts & figures DJB don't mean a thing to me, figures can be manipulated any direction you want, as I suspect you are doing. This country is full ! simple.
DJBrenton 738
When the facts don't agree with your opinion it's not the facts that are wrong. It seems obvioous that all the facts in the world won;t touch your opinion in any way. That's a sadly closed mind in that case. And it's quite rude to say I'm mani[pulating the figures as that would be dishonest. It's really noticeable that none of those arguing against me come up with any facts or figures. Is that because none of them support their opinions? And of course we're not FULL. It's a nonsense statement. If we'd had this argument back in the 50's some of you would have said the same. Anyway, it's obvious some of you have no desire to learn anything on case it forces you to re-examine your prejudices so I'm done with this debate.

catfan 14,793
No need for personal insults DJB. I think you have realised that your argument is on to a hiding straight away. Looking at the state of the economy in this country & you tell us that we can afford more mass immigration, in these times of austerity ? You are really having a laugh now. Just heard today that my cardiology appt, cancelled three times already has been cancelled again because of the sheer volume of work, the NHS is wonderful BUT at breaking point. Should have been April now late August.
mick2me 3,033
I also waited from November to June for an appointment with a specialist for a condition I have developed. I received a telephone cancellation on the day of the appointments in March then again in April. Only by chasing appointments did I get them reallocated. At the appointment I was told I need an operation! When will I get one? The specialist says it will be a matter of months. I guess in the mean time I will have top put up with the problem I have! TBI 2,351
It seems to me the majority of us have the same view, we can see the wood for the trees. When the Vikings, the French and the doodlebugs came , we did' nt scarper..we stood and either took it or fought against it!! Let's see how many of these boggers shout for England when there's a football match. And it's happening here in Eire. When the volcanic ash went up..27000 people couldn't sign on..WHY???..Because they were really living in Poland etc..and couldn't get a £6 Ryan air flight to come and sign on!!
