Pity theres only 9 blooms, but that's the extent of my gardening... That is definitely not Nelly Moser, but it's an excellent flower. I'm a huge fan of Clematis. I used to have many of the large flowered hybrids,(John Warren, Ernest Markham, Niobe, W.E.Gladstone and others, but they've all died off over the years. W.E. Gladstone, a huge flower, was last to go.. I'd had it over 40 years. What I have now, are about 3 Montana's, each slightly different, because they are seedlings I've planted up..and two large flowered ones, also seedlings..one of which is very similar to Nelly Moser. They just appeared in random old pots etc.. A sign that it's maybe not always a good thing to be too tidy. I used to buy my Clematis from Fisk's of Suffolk..but Jim Fisk..something of a legend in Clematis growing, died some years ago and they no longer exist. I'm also not a great fan of the smaller flowered new varieties which seem popular.. Give me the big 'blousy' ones any time. This conversation has spurred me on to buy a few new plants. Best to go to a specialist such as Ray Evison and get decent plants... The ones you find dying in Tesco's might survive with care, but it's a bit of a lottery.
DJ360 6,742
I spent today finishing off the trench and supports for this year's Runner Beans. Scarlet Empire this year, apparently an improvement on the old favourite Scarlet Emperor. The seedlings are progressing well, as are the outdoor Cucumbers. A new variety to me called 'Jogger F1' I also went out and bought more Weedol Lawn Weedkiller, which I find effective and economical when applied with a sprayer once a year. Like everything else..it now comes in smaller packs at higher cost. .. Speaking of which.. .. my Hozelock Multi Setting Sprayer finally fell apart this year. The plastic cracks.. So I bought a new one. £16 quid! ..for a bit of plastic. Still..if it lasts as long as the old one it will see me off... I also cut my hair.. which was very much overdue... it was almost an inch long!!
Oztalgian 3,363
I bought a sprayer from our local big box hardware store, primarily used for black spot on the roses and Glyphosate for the weeds in the pavers. Guess what? It was not made in China but in Italy!

I have a 5 litre pressure sprayer used for weed killer.. It's on its last legs, but for an 'unbranded' item bought from Wilko's about 20 years ago.. it has been excellent.. For countless lawn weeds it has been the last thing they saw.....

Oztalgian 3,363
Absolutely awful, I have just found out that the biggest single winner lottery prize of 150 million dollars came to Adelaide but not to me. Not surprisingly as I did not buy a ticket. With odds of 134 million to 1, the odds of being killed by a shark or a kangaroo are around 8 million to 1. I would rather put my $20 aside and buy myself a decent single malt every couple of months or so. The bloke that won it went a did his normal job today?

The odds of winning the Euromillions Jackpot are even worse than our OZ Lottery. OZ Lottery 134 million to 1 Euromillions 139 million to 1 The overall chances of winning a prize in the Euromillions is 13 to 1. So you may see a small return Brew. Good Luck. As they say in the advertising here "You've got to be in it to win it" Portugal buys most tickets per capita and Spain is the luckiest country. It looks like you might have to move to warmer climes to improve your chances.
denshaw 2,878 Posted yesterday at 09:09 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 09:09 AM I have noticed lots of new Barbers shops too in Beeston, do people suddenly have their haircut every week? Every 6 weeks is normal for me.

nonnaB 4,909
This weekend is our Wine Festival. It always was the first weekend in May but almost always it rained so they changed it to the last weekend in May. It rained! Since, it’s been a hit and miss situation. Last year it was hot , this year See above. Last night was the first night and it just didn’t stop to rain. It came down so heavily and the people that had ventured out were sheltering in whatever cover they could find. Half way through the evening I sent a message to my daughter asking what the “situation” was and how busy the various food counters were doing. She replied they had some new customers. Umbrellas, black refuse bags , walls etc were covered in snails. Hope tonight the weather holds, at the moment the sun is shining. Tomorrow is last day so we are going tomorrow as there is less commotion, much better than Saturday as there’s loud music and all the young ones are dancing everywhere and you just can’t move to get a glass of wine or a plate of food because of the long queues. philmayfield 6,228
I think a lot of the so called ‘Turkish’ barber shops are decidedly suspect. Many are run (as are car washes) by Kurds and Albanians and may be linked to people smuggling and drugs.
Mess 627
The odds of winning Euromillions are, shall we say rather long. I only buy a ticket when the jackpot breaks the £100m mark. I think we'd all have a better chance if they changed the rules to disallow non Brits from winning it. Non Brits should still be allowed to buy a ticket however lol
