Trevor S 2,003
Thanks folks. There may be many changes to the old town but what is evident on this website; the friendliness of the majority of people born and bred in Nottingham is still very evident!
jackson 301
Nottingham people are well noted for their friendliness Trevor.
tomlinson 879
I remember that bar (under another name) being (re?)opened up in the early mid-eighties I think. 'The (??) Bar' as in something like The Mint Bar for example. Was a nice bar. Am I right in thinking there was a string quartet, or something similar, playing from some sort of balcony? .... 23
Yes, the 'Palm Court Trio' used to play regularly in the upstairs bar.
Cliff Ton 10,496
Today I realised just how much it lives up to its name of Slab Square. Very difficult to come up with a more boring place
mick2me 3,033
The top right hand corner of the square in your pic is the only interesting part.

mudgie49 401
That is a sad site for an ex-pat. The hours we spent in our youth, hanging out in the old 'market square',flat and characterless.
jackson 301
Take a look at Cliff Ton's photograph (top of page 1); is it not a Crying Shame what's been done to Our City's Central Area?
mudgie49 401
That's what I refer to Jacko,Cliff Tons' photo'.
.... 23
Today I realised just how much it lives up to its name of Slab Square. Very difficult to come up with a more boring place Coincidentally, I had the misfortune to have to do some shopping in Nottingham yesterday. I passed through the square, looking at that precise view and really noticed how drab the square looks nowadays when it's not being utilised for a stage or some other event to break up the blandness. katyjay 5,091
Bloody norah, it worked. The square in 87, when entered for the Britain in Bloom contest, I do believe they won.

poohbear 1,360
Hanging baskets...possible danger of falling. Pigeons ...possible psittacosos infection. Flowers...possible lung problems for Asthmatics. Concrete steps...no wheelchair access. Outside catering unit...no access to hot running water. Not suitable for the 21st Century.
