Cliff Ton 10,470
In the days when there were shops such as Dewhurst in the middle of town. Carlton Street (aka the top end of Hockley); the photographer is standing on the corner of George Street.
SPIKEISLAND9 46
`Pooles for Tools` somewhere in that region?
The Pianoman 1,535
Pooles were a bit further down on the right. Carlton Street behind you.
TBI 2,351
I think the picture is taken from Broad St. Pools Tools were nearly facing George St.
Bubblewrap 3,815
I think the photo is Goose gate not Carlton Street. Carlton Street is quite short running from Victoria Street/Pelham Street to Heathcoat Street I think the photograph was taken from the corner of Brightmoor Street
The Pianoman 1,535
Yes Pooles was pretty well opposite George Street. I suppose where the picture was taken from depends on how long the photographers lens was! Wasn't there another tool shop down there? edit: remembered it as I pressed post. It was Gillotts. Always seemed to have loads of scissors
TBI 2,351
You can see the sign says Carlton St, Bubble wrap.
Bubblewrap 3,815
I stand corrected..................
SPIKEISLAND9 46
I thought it appeared a little too low down the road for Pooles. Likewise Thornton`s Chocolate Kabin.
Bubblewrap 3,815
Could the building with the Carlton Street sign on it be on the corner of Stoney Street ?

TBI 2,351
It is Reno, Ian. Yes, corner of Stoney St, Bubblewrap.
TBI 2,351
Yes, it do look a bit grim, Ian. I worked at the top of Carlton St for a while, seventies. Here's the corner today, you can see the picture was took from Broad St... https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.953736,-1.1437685,3a,37.5y,206.51h,98.57t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sbkVa2tFhxwr5qOKCrPVuSQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
