  1. Maybe this should be posted under “things you don’t see any more”. A coal man, and a lorry piled up with sacks. On Clifton in the early 60s, almost every house still had a coal fire, so they all had deliveries. In the early days it was the Co-op with their red lorries; but later a firm called Nevin's came along and within a couple of years nobody had Co-op coal, everybody had it from Nevin's. Coalmen and milkmen. Used to be everywhere, but both are almost extinct now.

  2. I think many of us remember the pre central heating era when there was ice on the inside of the bedroom windows. Didn't do us any harm. People are too bloody soft nowadays.

  3. Hi @DJ360 I've seen from a couple of your posts you live near St. Helens. My father was from Sutton and my Auntie Mary still lives there. When he was alive, even though he hadn't lived there for over thirty years, he still referred to it as going up home when we visited. I still remember being out on the streets with my cousins and their friends laughing every time I said anything because I "talked funny"

  4. @letsavagoo& @troggi never even thought about people still using coal in stoves or log burners, our house on gamble st just had 2 fireplaces in the front & back living rooms, the rest of the house was unheated, & ice on the inside of the bedrom windows was a regular thing in the winter.

  5. We old farts have been lucky that we have lived through an era of great music. I was watching my recording of the Beach Boys 50th anniversary, yes I know it was made 20 years ago, but looking at the thousands of fans in the audience, children were enjoying the music, as we;; as their parents and grandparents. The Bee Gees , Fleetwood Mac, the vast audience of youngsters who hadn't even been born when those groups became famous, and the great music they gave us.

  6. Today, I is sitting out on me bench under the kitchen window, contemplating on how I could put the world to rights. After much thought was giving me a headache, I decided not to bother.. So carried on with me coffee. Morning all !
