  1. I would never pick on him, he’s helped me so much on here since I joined this year. Bless you Beekay. Mrs B
  2. Totally agree, some of these films have been on at least 3 times over Christmas and New Year. We all love them but only really want to see them once more. Have done lots of knitting whilst also doing “passive” viewing! Mrs B
  3. We have spent most of the day looking at and booking a trip to New England in the fall next year. Another one off the bucket list. A happy New Year to all of you, may it be full of happiness, good health and love. Mrs B
  4. Ha you could av bin Beekay. I never thought of you as an erbert tho if you were. Just wanted to hop on to the fair.
  5. Goose Fair is an essential part of Nottingham history. Being that bit younger I can remember the music of the late 60’s early 70’s being played. Even now if the weather is a bit foggy at the beginning of October I always say “it’s a bit Goose Fairish”. We used to get the bus from Slab Square, always a queue.
  6. We managed to eat all the perishable Christmas food and threw very little away, no more than a usual week. What is left of the turkey, which was excellent from a local farm shop, is in the freezer for making curry later. I cooked the Brussels with smoked bacon this year (thanks for the recipe Mary Berry) and everyone wanted more. Now we are just left with lots of chocolate with good shelf life so am sure we can get through that. A family member works for a chocolate firm so no surprise there. When Boxing Day is over, personally I just want to get rid of the decs and get back to normal,
  7. Just made my trifle for tomorrow laced with 10 year old Harvey’s Bristol Cream. When we cleared mums house out we found 3 bottles stashed away. I think she kept asking the carers to get some with her shopping just in case someone popped in for a visit bless her.
  8. I think Cropwell Bishop is the best but each to their own. There’s a company now based in Colston Bassett who produce macarons, also one of my favourites!
  9. We always remember absent friends at Christmas too. I am now the “elderly matriarch” of the McDonald clan after the passing of my two brothers and mum all within 8 years. Still have my nieces and nephews and my own kids who all remember the McDonald humour they have all been brought up with thank goodness. Oztalgian hope despite covid hope you enjoy your Christmas time. My mum used to smoke woodbines back in the day once she’d used up my dads allocation of John Players of course.
  10. I managed to get all my perishable Christmas food shopping done today with good expiry dates. Don’t have to go out now till after Crimbo. Even got my favourite White Stilton from the local butcher, jobs a good un. Hoping all of you have a happy Christmas and all the best for 2023. Mrs B
  11. I have mixed memories of canals, my brother lived on a narrow boat which was moored at Etruria which he loved. Ex car mechanic so loved the mechanics. I actually fell in the canal off a small boat in Loughborough about 5 years ago, went right under and had to be hauled out by a passing dog walker. My mobile phone was fizzing in my pocket so had to dismantle it and get a new one. Someone from a moored boat provided me with dry clothes to get back home which was very kind. Very lucky that I didn’t come into contact with something like a shopping trolley or anything else that might have been lurk
  12. Cliff Ton, I think we both agreed last Thursday that we were of the same age starting at Midland and I don’t remember the blue sugar bags either! We’re obvs just young uns . Mrs B
  13. Very watchable match. Whatever were France doing in the first 70mins though?
  14. We used Dolly blue bags for wasp stings too. Excellent result. I think you can still get them on Amazon
  15. We went on the Christmas lights trail at Belton House near Grantham last night. We all had about 5 layers on and 2 pairs of socks so we’re really warm. It was beautiful to see with all the frost on the grass and trees with the lights and we even got to toast marshmallows in the woods. Now it feels like Christmas. Well worth a visit next year folks.
  16. Gem, it definitely wasn’t Aloe Vera, I use that for dry skin and after sun. It was in a little bottle like you would have nail varnish in and painted on with a brush. I think it would be banned now, it was vile.
  17. Gem, you’ve just reminded me of awful stuff that used to be painted on my nails to stop me nibbling them when I was a young un. It was really bitter. I think I only nibbled them because my brother did. Can anyone remember what it was called?
  18. Unfortunately different councils have different rules for recycling. All my cardboard and paper goes into my compost at home or the allotment. Recyclable plastics go in the council bin and “soft plastics” like crisp and biscuits wrappers and the top film from packaged meat/fish go to the soft plastics hoppers at the supermarkets. I do get annoyed when packaging says “not yet recyclable but we’re working on it” Bit of a scapegoat comment as they have to put something legally but they’re probably not working on it at all. We’re currently saving 2L pop bottles for a local community projec
  19. My youngest cat had to have a teeny tooth out this morning so have been keeping a watchful eye on her all day. She’s fine now she’s stopped walking like a crab after the anaesthesia but hasn’t left my side all day bless her. Considering she recovered from having her pelvis broken in 3 places 2 years ago and is now bionic having had it pinned am sure she will be fine.
  20. Mary, my godmother used to live at the station house at Mumby and I can remember the Anderby Creek club. I used to spend most of my summers there as a child. Also my parents used to rent a bungalow on Wall Lane in Ingoldmells which backed on to the field where the beach donkeys were kept. My brother lived at Sutton on Sea up to when he passed away and ran the model railway at the fun fair at Mablethorpe so lots of happy memories from that area.
  21. Good point Beekay, he must either sleep overnight at the depot or take the snow plough home with him the night before ?
  22. LizzieM they were always called the bucket and spade brigade in airline speak in the early days, especially with those Spanish donkeys they used to bring back. Maybe not nowadays but I think airlines are a lot more professional now. Flight crew are not necessarily cocooned although they are locked in, the comms between flight deck and cabin crew (CRM) is so much more improved, particularly after Kegworth. Cabin crew legally are only there for safety, the service is a bonus. Working for an airline for 30+ years makes me really cross with obnoxious passengers, there’s just no need for it.
  23. I think that Sir Freddie can be applauded for opening up the skies cheaply across the Atlantic. What a great guy. British European Airways (BEA) I believe were the first to fly to the Costas in the late 1950’s and then Horizon Holidays?
  24. There was a blackberry coloured one too. We had the best view on the airport from the control tower.
  25. We all wear Xmas pyjamas all day as well now, there’s only the four of us. Couldn’t have done it when mum was alive and used to come, you had to be dressed up to the nines bless her.
