  1. The subject of pop memorabilia takes me back to a past visit to an exhibition of Nottinghamshire's pop links, a tad further north in the county. Pop Goes Mansfield
  2. Yes, it's been a quiet few decades up to this point, mate.
  3. Sad to hear that if somebody did that. The type of fencing around the tree wouldn't keep anybody out though, it's more just a symbolic 'keep out' gesture.
  4. The props and other supportive paraphernalia have been there for many a year, Ian.
  5. I think the Major Oak was fenced off as the traffic of so many feet walking underneath it caused the ground to compact and stop moisture getting through to the tree's roots. Stand to be corrected on that one.
  6. Definitely a Mini-sized road.
  7. We would all dearly love to be in 'Peak Hour'.
  8. 1963 - John F Kennedy is assassinated in Dallas, Texas. 1963 - A gang of fifteen men steal £2.6m in the 'Great Train Robbery'. 1967 - Otis Ray Redding Jnr loses his life with members of The Bar-Kays in a plane crash at Lake Monona, Wisconsin. 1967 - The first human heart transplant is carried out by Dr Christiaan Barnard. 1990 - After 27 years in prison, Nelson Mandela takes the walk to freedom. 1998 - 'The Troubles' result in political stalemate in Northern Ireland. 2016 (May) - Hibernian FC win the Scottish Cup.
  9. The title of my website was chosen carefully some years ago...
  10. #18 I think The Lawman is being overly modest there.
  11. Do you compose your text on Word before pasting in? Sometimes done this on forums and had to reintroduce line spacing as it often reformats it.
  12. I even used to avoid IE by using Netscape in those days!
  13. Ah right mate. I am out of touch with Microsoft browsers by many years. I've used Chrome, Firefox and even a Windows version of Safari. I tend to stick with Chrome, it does the job for me.
  14. A couple of pic courtesy of the Nottingham Urban History community on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/nottinghamurbanhistory/ There are some other excellent railway pic on there tonight too - well worth a view. Carrington Station site looking north Carrington Station tunnel portal
  15. Wonder if that's related to the age group that inhabit the mining forum, J? I am regularly amazed that Microsoft don't come up with something better than IE. It's really poor in comparison to its competitors.
  16. Once highlighting the text have you tried clicking on the area to be pasted to and clicking Control V ?
  17. I think, considering Notts' situation specifically, they have spent big relatively at this level for this season but the don't appear to have spent wisely. They have a ridiculously large squad too which causes it's own problems. Money hasn't been the problem this term. I agree with your point about youth and I think especially that clubs of Notts' size have to seriously think about being 'football factories' and invest in better facilities to bring youth on to sell them on. It's the only way forward that seem sustainable to me realistically.
  18. You're right - it's been so long now since there were better, more stable days for the club. I think it was different for them years ago under the very different stewardships of Jack Dunnet who ran a tight ship and the more expansive Derek Pavis and that's the big difference now. There are less wealthy benefactors these days prepared to throw their money at the Notts County's of this world. Ray Trew appears to totally divide the Notts support. Apart from his continual poor choice of managers it's maybe hard to knock him in other ways, having bailed them out. I just get the whiff of him gettin
  19. Just that you mentioned 'intel'. Lot of good chat in there I find if you like that sort of thing. A bit like being in the pub with your mates conducting the weekend's post-mortem. No, I wouldn't count Forest out of gaining a play-off place either. They've not been losing games awhile now and with that confidence and if they can turn a few more of the draws into wins, they could sneak in there. I'd tip them to do well if they did. They have some good players.
  20. Are you able to access Notts TV's 'The Boot Room' where you are, Mick? Friend was talking to Britt on Woodthorpe Park the other week where he was walking his dogs. Hopes to be 'not too long'.
  21. I think this was definitely the game to set up that way. Most Forest friends of mine say that the problem is when they continurally set up to contain the inferior teams that they should really be attacking and taking the game to though.
  22. I hear good things about them though have never seen them. I enjoyed a couple of the Gaffa 'Recovered' nights at the Nottingham Contemporary a while back. Quite amazing on the first occasion to see three of them again after all these years! Miff was playing in a rockabilly band called The Outriders and cooked up a storm a couple of times when I was saw them, excellent. I hear he's unfortunately had to cease now due to hearing problems.
  23. I walk up and down Shakespeare Street regularly and would agree. The fact that it's now blocked off and Goldsmith Street is in effect too is wrong in my opinion but I can understand the former considering the amount of students milling around there now with such a lot of accommodation being built there. Somebody stopped before the cameras on Shakespeare St the other day and asked me how to get to the railway station - had to think about that one for a minute. It's hopeless around there now.
  24. I watched Gaffa a lot back in the seventies, Ian, used to go down to the Imperial most weeks for quite a period. Wayne Evans is playing with Harry Stephenson and the Last Pedestrians in the Lincolnshire Poacher tonight! Quite a regular gig for them and they're very popular and bring a few in. Wayne plays stand up bass for this band and is still the same cheeky chappy and terrific musician he always was.
