  1. The toilets at trent bridge are still there, they are now closed and a new modern toilet has been put there to replace them.
  2. Mick, the street would be Newthorpe street. The old Meadows was full of small yards, there was also a lot of small yards that were previously used for stabling horses.
  3. Following on from the previous post by me, there is a steam show on at Cossal over this weekend. http://jaketowlson.wix.com/coppice-steam
  4. Swinglers are still going, but I think they are based at West Bridgford. They still have a steam engine that they show.
  5. There is some photos of the memorial at Wilford hill on the site, it is a bit more than a plaque. http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9435&page=3
  6. The old general has planning for 3 shops with 4 flats above, so another pub that wont reopen. I dont think there is many pubs left on Radford road now.
  7. It is just to the right of the old petrol station, car wash on Main road Watnall, at the end of Common lane, all you can see from google maps is a small wood. Probably built to be well hidden.
  8. Went passed the Greyhound in Arnold today, all tinned up.
  9. On a copy of an o.s. map of Sherwood dated 1899, Arno Vale is shown as the name of this house, they also mention that the house was occupied in 1881 by John Lawson Thackeray, a landowner and magistrate, after whom Thackerays Lane was named.
  10. They have even made the BBC news website. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-22360073
  11. There is someone that works at the eastcroft council depot that has a bicycle powered by a small engine, i am not sure if it is a raleigh, i see it quite often, i will try and get a picture.
  12. I can remember going there in the mid 80s and it was called tha Aviary then, I cant remember it being called the town arms, it is now the Riverbank, and was also the casa for a while. How many other pubs have had 3 or 4 name changes?
  13. It was still there in the early 80s, I think the sign is still there. I went passed Sneinton market last monday at about 10am, the only stall there was the fruit and veg, I cant see it lasting much longer.
  14. According to wikipedia it closed to vehicles in 1974, I can remember it being open but it didnt seem that long ago as I would have only been 9 then, so I would have been at Bosworth school.
  15. This is the area today, some of the sandstone wall still remains, and the large house was it connected to the pit or Basford hall.
  16. On an old map 1899 it is marked as a lace dressing works, but not named it was quite a large factory.
  17. According to todays Evening Post, the company that runs the student flats that were built on St peters st and Chettles yard have gone into administration. A lot of buildings in the city centre were converted into student flats, I know that there is a lot of students at both universities but surely there has to be some sort of limit. The developers of the Odeon site are targeting rich overseas students, what if they dont want to pay the expensive rents, will we be left with another half finished building the same as the 1 on Canal street. http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/Company-running-Opal
  18. Theres not much money in steel, about £150.00 per tonne. Copper is about £4000.00 per tonne. There used to be a scrap merchant near asda in Long Eaton, I think the nearest 1 to you would be Wards at Ilkeston or Sims or EMR at Dunkirk. They dont pay out in cash anymore due to the amount of metal being stolen.
  19. I got something a couple of weeks ago, it was meant to be from the police, it stated that I had been visiting dodgy web sites and that I needed to pay a fine and until I had paid up they would lock my computer. I dont know how they did it but the computer was locked as soon as you started windows this pop up would appear and the computer was locked. But I managed to set it back to a previous restore point.
  20. That would have been the Crystal palace
  21. On the 1899 map it is marked as sun sch, so you were correct, on the same map Queens walk cricket ground is marked as Meadows cricket ground, I wonder why the name change, and the police station is a police lodge although the building seems to be the same
  22. I took a customer to the site of Watnall bunker today, it is being converted into a house and a guest house, the lady was part of a film crew, they are making a programme about the conversion, she said it will be shown in January 2014. I looked on Broxtowe council website and found the planning application. http://planning.broxtowe.gov.uk/(S(juabxki2hgmmh1yfsudo4a45))/ApplicationHistorySummary.aspx?RefVal=11/00787
  23. I have a copy for Beeston, but Bramcote is not quite shown, but if you want any info, just ask.
