  1. Katyjay, just wondered if you mean Victoria Wood CBE, who died April 2016.I have often got those two ladies mixed up. Similar careers.
  2. Glad you enjoyed it Katyjay. It gave me a laugh as well. Afraid I can't take the thanks, Compo posted it.
  3. SorryAG, I can't help you. Someone with the knowledge will be on site soon. Looking forward to reading your researches.
  4. Great photo cliff Ton, one I have never seen before. I think the farm was demolished in 1954. At that time I would have been living in Gedling village near my friend SueB48, and both been aged six. The view from the church is a walk we would have done many times, going up Arnold Lane. In the bottom right of the photo you can just see the tops of a row of cottages that ran sideways to the road, my sister had a friend living in one of those and I was with her when she called there many times in later years. Also just past the cottages, same side, would be Jessops Lane, leading down
  5. Happy Birthday Benj. Glad Yum Havin a Gudun.
  6. Benj, Me too. Aunts, Uncles, Cousins. All mi Nottm family. All of them.
  7. Sorry for laughing LL. I can just imagine the scene.
  8. I don't remember mam ever shouting or raising a hand to any of us, but the saying 'I'll tell your dad' was often said to us. No problem, you only had to tickle his forehead or run your fingers through his hair and he was a push over.
  9. I have just read the sad news of the death of Roger Bannister. Though I am not a sport fan of any kind I admire people who dedicate themselves and accomplish great things and Roger was one of those people. His name has stayed in my memory for another reason personal to me and other old Gedling School pupils, of which I know there are a few of us on NS. We had four houses at Gedling School and I'm sure our NS members will all remember which one they belonged in. Mine was ( as I imagine you have guessed) Roger Bannister, our colour was Blue. He was the last surviving man that our h
  10. Nice cards Chulla, Roll on the spring, lets have some sunshine and we'll soon be seeing these wild flowers for real. The Common Lings bell shaped flowers hold a good amount of necter thus the honey produced by the bees has its own characteristic flavour. The Common Mallow seems to have been a very useful plant to have around. The leaves good for eating, a remedy for bee stings and also used to ease coughs. Can't be bad. The Ladies Smock or cuckoo flower, gets it name from the fact that it comes out around the time of the arrival of the first cuckoo. The flower also has some of a religous na
  11. I Love this old song, found in http://www.nottshistory.org.uk/books/gedling1908/gedlingmanor.htm. I couldn't resist adding it, but not sure if it has been posted before. I know some Gedlingites and other NSs on here will enjoy reading it. For any newcomers, The Notts History site has some really interesting reading on all areas around Nottm. "GEDLING, PAST AND PRESENT." 1 "Gedling we know is a rising: place; They've got a new clock, which has more than one face, It strikes its hour, and likewise its quarters. To rouse all those Gedling sons and daughters. Chorus.—
  12. Here's one Lizzie from 'Snowy W-ton'. The sun came out for a while so we decided to take a stroll in the'West Park' our equivalent to 'The Arboretum'. The boating lake was frozen solid and the swans and ducks were all huddled together. The snow soon returned and looking out of my window now, it looks like Siberia. It is all gusting again, much to hubbies disdain. We have a little gap in the garage roof, that has been on the list for repair? this morning when Chris opened the door he was met with a garage full of snow!!!
  13. I have just been Googleing famous Christines who could have had an influence on parents who had baby girls in the 1940s. It turns out that there were quite a few film stars with the name. American and British. Some very glamorous ladies I must say. Christine Mcintyre, Christine Larsen, Christine Lamson White, Christine Norden, to name just a few. We wont talk about the film 'Christine the Killer Car' or 'Christine Keeler' the you know who girl? oh well, I was never keen on my name but after my research I want to say thank you to all of those fabulous 40s film stars for my lovely name.
  14. Alum Rock anawl. Them there Christines came from every where in the 60s! There must have been someone famous around in the 40s for so many of us to be given that name? I bet she was a bostin wench aye benj.
  15. Ian, It's a good job benj didn't help you shell the peas Miduck. There wouldn't be many left for dinner.
  16. Telling me that I'm not really over you. Yeh, Missed those duets Miduck. Haha.
  17. Welcome back benj. So pleased you are recovered. Don't like it when mi mates are poorly. Missed Ya.
  18. I took this shot this morning, sorry it has taken all day to get around to posting it. I have noticed this falcon hasn't got a ring on its right leg. I thought the birds were ringed every year when they reached a certain age. Just wondered if this one is a new comer. It had quite an argument with another falcon that tried to get on the nest site just after this picture was taken. The other one didn't hang around too long.
  19. Hope all went well for you DJ? Plenty of time for walkies when the sun shines a bit more. All the best Miduck.
  20. LL, I agree with Margi. Nov 2016, three days after a heart procedure, I was walking through a shop and the vision in my right eye went watery? It unnerved me so we decided to go home and by the time we got to the car it was back to normal. Another three days past, and whilst watching the television, I realised that half the television screen wasn't there. As I moved my eyes across the screen it appeared bit by bit. Still alarm bells didn't ring?. Three weeks later, I read an article about mini strokes and it sent me into a panic, as my symptoms were described, the doc saw me
  21. All the best catfan. I understand your feelings about the MRI scanner. Will think about you, and hope you have a good result.
  22. Saw my Cardiologist yesterday, i have been dreading it since my last op Nov2016, problems didn't clear up and i was expecting her to say I needed another op. Well, it seems that the problem is sorted but I have been left with Atrial Flutter making me think the AF was still happening. I will have that for life, but knowing it isn't life threatening makes it easier to accept. An appointment for a seven day heart monitor is coming, Warfarin and meds for life and a cardiologist review in six months. Feel rather chuffed today. So every time my ticker flutters, I have to say to myself.....Its OK. I
  23. Seen it, seen it, seen it. Oh go on then, I'll force myself to watch it again. I would have missed it. Thanks CliffTon.
