  1. A very enviable talent!
  2. Since you put in a post regarding the 'Quote' Here is a rhyme what I have just wrote. You've just had a birthday, what were you at? Hope you had a Great Day - You can 'Quote' me on that!!!
  3. As I understand it, it happened this way. I 'Quoted', as a light aside mentioning Bill Haley had entered our hit parade in 1955, on your original post. I realized later I had omitted to add that it was 'this day' 1955 by which time it was too late to edit my 'Quote', so I added another post which has appeared under your name - so it's your fault!!! Confusing, isn't it?
  4. For some reason an expression which I haven't heard for years came to mind this morning. 'He looks like a pox doctor's clerk'. I never really understood what it meant.
  5. We appear to walk on eggshells.
  6. When I was on Facebook, there were many offerings from people born in the 70s who mourned for the 'good old days'. I suppose we all look at the past through rose coloured glasses, and of course, we all knew best!
  7. I have an ornament head of a Buddha to keep them out of my garden. So far it's working!
  8. Don't forget the radio. Plenty of good stuff to be heard there.
  9. Abuse and violence are a part of being human unfortunately. I abhore violence in any form, particularly domestic violence but how many of us can put a hand on heart and say there is no situation in which we would become violent. In all honesty, I couldn't and site #1 as an example. Of all understanding, I think self understanding is the most important and leads to the appreciation of reactions in others.
  10. If all else fails, read the instructions.
  11. A lady contacted her late husband via a spiritualist and she asked what life was like in the hereafter. He said he slept; got up; ate; had sex; ate; had sex and carried on that way until it was time to sleep again. She said it sounded like a perfect paradise but he said not at all. He'd been reincarnated as a rabbit and lived on Salisbury Plain. It would be nice to be reincarnated and see how earth developed without mankind. I'm sure it would be an improvement! How would you like to come back?
  12. Dennis Skinner's autobiography. Look forward to reading that!
  13. I've always thought of soaps as being a sort of charity for aged, deprived actors, or those looking for work who could find nothing else. I enjoyed the American comedy series 'Soap' though.
  14. Looking at the other end of it, when I was a kid, Wollaton, West Bridgeford; Mapperley and the Park were all considered 'posh' along with a few others we didn't know. When it comes down to it, I suppose it depends on where you're standing at the time.
  15. Yes, I suppose we've all been there but it can have its advantages. Some years ago I was given a Christmas gift by some relatives of the wife and when I opened it I found a second gift tag, 'To Ron, Best Wishes From ---- whoever'. It was of course an unopened, discarded present given to the relative for a previous Christmas. The spirit of giving and mean mindedness is still with us! We could save ourselves a lot of money. Junk anyone?
  16. I think this is an appealing belief warranting more faith than established religions. Right back at you with the blessings.
  17. I think you've put your finger on the nub. They have no future to invest in but from years back, they've never invested in the future - i.e. today. Money has always been thrown into the problem; how else do we help?
  18. During the time I was in the RAF, there was a famine in Ethiopia and we sent out Hercules aircraft with aid. I talked to a crew member and he told of how they landed there, opened the cargo doors and were met by open hands and dead bodies. The Ethiopians were told to help themselves by cleaning things up to avoid disease before aid would be given, which was done. He also mentioned that 'down the road' at Addis Ababa, steaks and other such foods could be had at any restaurant. I'm afraid I'm with 'basfordred' on this. Of course it's a human tragedy; of course it is unthinkable to us that we sh
  19. I agree. And think of the donations that have been given over the many years to no, or little, improvement.
