  1. Hi Pixie, good to see you back - the hero returns....................
  2. Rob 237: proud to say that Rob hailed from Amesbury Circus, Bells Lane Estate; a lovely place for kids to be brought up, back in the 50's.
  3. I wouldn't mind a week's holiday up in Edinburgh: they've a 'Mary Queen of Scots' exhibition and the Queen has loaned some of her precious stuff, including the Darnley jewel. Lady Antonia Fraser is due to give a talk about her fascinating biography on this tragic Queen. Also wouldn't mind catching a bus and travelling up to the environs around Aberdeen, where the wonderful painter Joan Eardley owned a but and ben at the side of the sea and painted exquisite pictures. Before this Joan painted children who lived in the Gorbals area; she was fascinated by their spirit despite their poverty.
  4. Hi Katyjay, thinking on your posting @21; remember my mum making little Yorkshire Puddings for Sunday Dinner: some were made for the Beef and some had blackberries dropped in them for pudding after - Delicious with Cream.
  5. My day was made today when I noticed the Honeysuckle that I have been growing for a few years rewarded me with its first blossoms. Here's hoping for the sunshine; then the trellis that it grows around will be a sight for sore eyes - there's an old saying for you. PS: I've made 2,300 postings up to now - could this be my lucky number? - hope so.
  6. Rob 237, remembered for his enthusiastic input - 'Nottstalgia'.
  7. Amazing Stuff from 'The Rolling Stones' at 'Glastonbury last night (BBC2 after the tennis - great stuff from Serena and her opponent too). 'The Stones' continue to be 'The Greatest, Little Rock n' Roll Band In The World'. Best, was when they sang: 'I Can't Get No Satisfaction'. I would have died if they'd sung my favourite: 'Hey You Get Off Of My Cloud' - love this, so cocky and challenging. Great thing about 'The Stones is that they combine today's music locked together with over 50 years of memorable, good songs. Back in the 60's there was much competition between 'The Stones' and
  8. I am concerned; why has Paulus' comment been removed? 'The Writing's on the Wall'.
  9. Hi DavidW, bought the car from a friend for the grand price of £100 - this was back in the 70's. Always wished I'd kept - my cars become my best friends. The MG went to an avid collector in Wales; here's hoping she's still gracing the lanes .................
  10. My very first car was an MG Magnette: Solid, Silver and Old, boy did it have some tales to tell ................................... never let me down; that is why today I still drive an old car. Faithful and Loyal Forever that's me, to something that gives me Good Service; a Partnership.
  11. Hi Beefsteak, what would we do without you and your incredible knowledge on birds?; how fortunate we were to have been able to watch the Peregrines recently. PS: Birds and Birdsong; 'These are a Few of My Favourite Things'.
  12. Welcome Bob Shureuncle, love your name - 'how tickled I am'. An interesting tale you tell of your hard done to childhood; still, a little bit of hard work never did anyone any harm! Signed: Fanny Shureaunt (this is catching!).
  13. Anyone remember 'Stones Ginger Beer' in the beige, stone bottle; it was so peppery hot upon first tasting that it almost blew your tongue off!
  14. Bubble and squeak for us Monday dinnertimes at 12.30; lovely with cold beef and pickles - yum yum.
  15. You do put some great stuff on DavidW - as do many others. Will get back to you tomorrow regarding 'Our Green City'; ta ta for now.
  16. Hi LizzieM, must confess I laughed out loud at your little anecdote concerning your Great-Aunt Connie who was an 'excellent cook'. I have a similar story: I recall my Grandma, Mrs Florrie Jackson (a lovely, kind lady) who at the age of 90 was waiting and watching at the kitchen window for the 'Meals On Wheels' lady to deliver her mid-day meal. She turned and looked at me and said: "there's no joy in getting older you know." I really felt the pathos of her situation: here was a lady who must have cooked with love and pride for all her family and many others for over 70 years; but the m
  17. Poohbear, you're an Ace: thank you for the exquisite watercolour above of Nottingham's Castle and the easily recognisable buildings to the fore .............. Will try and find out the artist's name .................... PS: the photograph preceding, amazingly interesting of what it was like before ............
  18. Many, many thanks to Pooh Bear and DavidW for the wonderful, interesting and fascinating engravings and paintings of Nottingham's fair city.
  19. Eeebygum Heckythump!: Welcome to the site 'Crabpot'.
  20. 'Fry's Five Centre', such a delight back then; pink, orange, green and light brown, all these lovely colours in a chocolate bar - how clever the Confectioners. Saturday morning errands done and with the rewards of my work jangling in my pocket, I'd treat myself to a 'Five Centre' - savouring every bit of it. PS: Thanks Trevor for the beautiful, colourful poster.
  21. Loved the Big Co-op on Parliament Street: a great place to take a walk around - no need to purchase. Memories.....................
  22. Welcome Sheridan - like your retro hat, George Raft inspired? The above has been discussed before but you have added to by reminding me of: 'the Restaurant with the fountain on the top floor'. Keep writing............
  23. GROWING DAHLIAS: 'A Blooming Good Show Again' My great grandfather: Mr William Hill, always maintained an annual, colourful show of dahlias in his back garden during the 50's. As a girl, I thought his mass of home grown flowers a beautiful sight; I'd skip along at the side of the tiny, trellised fence surrounding great grandad's garden and consider him ever so clever for being able to grow his very own dahlias: pompom ones and spray ones and different colours from the brightest red, yellow and orange to those fused with white: lemon, pink and lavender. "A blooming good show again," gre
  24. Hi Mick, thanks for the welcome. I'll certainly try to make the next 'meet up' - any chance for this 'Grand Old Dame' to look glamorous, been out of the spotlight for too long. PS: No sign of the falcons, fingers crossed............................
