  1. i tend to agree with you on that trevor to use a rope system on the ferry would i think be quite a bad idea to be able to reach the rope even standing in the boat the rope would have to be quite low and the amount of large barges up and down the river some were high as well as long would have been constantly taking out the rope.in the 50s there were about one big barge every ten mins up and down the river and a lot of big dredgers with small crains on the top digging up the river bed making a much deeper river than it once was.

  4. how the riverbank on stoke has changed over the years used to swimof that landing stage and sit and sunbath on it remember seeing small boats and the sailing clubs boats going down thw slope and sitting on the steps waching them go into the river for races or just to practice. dancing to my brothers portable batery powered record player it was orange and you could fit 12 singles into its lid think it might have been a dancettebut not sure.this would have been in the late 50s early sixties and i carnt remember ever seeing the old ferry ever being used but it was tied up on radcliffe side.

  18. of course so far this winter has been very mild indeed but so far 2014 has been very wet as most of us will agree but spring is certainly on its way been out for a bit of a drive today saw a few lambs in the fields ,snowdrops, catkins. and pussy willow/ and even a few crocus just showing there heads. all these things i associate with the comming of spring, hodstock priory near blyth now open for the snowdrops as is hopton gardens near cromford both well worth a visit if you looking for something to doin the next couple of week or so. im sur you can find details and prices on line.
  19. bilbraborn i too suffer from night leg cramps or irritable leg syndrome and my dr gave me quinine and it has certainly helped and they are now less often and less pain ful worth asking your dr if you havent tried them. clifton i certainly would have pesterd then to let me out for that looking forward to it, one night was enough for me i wouldhave ended up going mad if i had to stay in for 2 weeks or more on the bay i was on the other patients were a lot older and a lot sicker than me 2 of them were regular dialisis patients and the other one had had 2 resent strokes pluss alzimers i think

  21. some great stuff on there micheal i have not been to a good live rock and roll night in ages the local ones i want to see always seem to be clashing with birthday parties. but hopeing i can get to see the bobmers at the strelly club on 22nd of feb and then the following week its rocking ray at the boat priory st lenton i do enjoy rocking rays nights some great traditional rock and roll and great people a mixture of the r/r crowd and local people.
  22. bilbraborn good luck we will think of you know that feeling i have had it done myself twice, the test its self was nott too bad as you say it was the drinking all that stuff beforehand as you say i was fine for the first two glasses then it was backwards and forwards to the loo some time a very fast pace for me anyway if you got an ensuite say in your bedroom and read a book we only have one loo and its upstairs. so i stayed in my bedroom and tryed to watch telly.
  23. thanks every body just want to make sure it dose not happen again surley 3 blood test is cheaper and less invasive than all the other tests they did and takes less time if its done as urgent could be going home in 3 or four hours. they were looking into doing a kidney biopsy mudgie but it did not get as far as that thank goodness. and i was not showing any of the symptoms of kidney desease it should have rang bells straight away and they should have given me another bloodtest just to be on the safe side .
  24. i should also say i had none of the expected symptoms of liver desease and felt well . no yellow skin or eyes whites no sickness .
