  1. Famous for his alms houses http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10206&hl=alms
  2. And from Parliament Street, looking down, just as the widening started.
  3. A great image of present-day Britain - she's nipped out of work and has a mobile phone stuck to her ear. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.982053,-1.124269,3a,15y,19.86h,87.91t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sIIC4V-DUgGvyRGee_hui5g!2e0?hl=en
  4. This? https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.981855,-1.123926,3a,75y,345.46h,96.69t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1szpxid55ZlAVGWS9KYmS5GQ!2e0?hl=en
  5. From the days before nationalisation..........you don't get quaint language like this in adverts now. I fancy the idea of going to an electric cookery demonstration on a Wednesday afternoon.
  6. By the mid-80s (maybe earlier) there was a delicatessen at the corner of Florence Road / Porchester Road which sold those kind of things. In those days it was still fairly rare to find that kind of shop.
  7. The timing thing on posts is even more complicated than that. I'm not sure whether this is only on my computer, but all the posting times I see on messages are one hour earlier than they were actually posted. For instance, here's one I did earlier and it says 9.30am. But I actually posted it at 10.30 am. And that applies to every post I see.
  8. I know what you mean. The lower level bit on the left is in the old Odeon space; the tall building is in what was an empty hole.
  9. Wouldn't be able to post it on here covering that much area in that much detail. You need real paper maps, as Bubblewrap mentions.
  10. Now it's almost finished, It doesn't look too bad from Maid Marian Way. Better than some of the awful 60s/70s rubbish which surrounds it.
  11. Seems to have been at the west end of Waterway Street, near Wilford Road.
  12. Seeing DAVIDW's photo at #11 rang a bell with me. Here's almost the same photo from the opposite angle. The most photographed washing line in history. And the big building at the top of the road seems to have been a Dye Works. Would that have been what was suggested as a slaughter house in #1
  13. This will provide a helluva lot of information. Start with a free trial, because you eventually have to pay for full access to everything. http://www.findmypast.co.uk/ Or go here which is free, but not complete. It's entirely voluntary and constantly being updated. http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
  14. Your wishes are actually being answered, after all these years. http://www.nottinghampost.com/Plans-second-stage-Nottingham-ring-road/story-22213640-detail/story.html
  15. Am I right in assuming the places on the list were "tin huts" in a back garden, or something similar? There were also the bigger concrete bunker-type shelters, some of which have survived. Two in West Bridgford that I'm aware of. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.928213,-1.121812,3a,75y,244.19h,86.66t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sdipBYnNDeKdm9i-fjlvLUQ!2e0?hl=en And one here which you can't really see, but it is there in amongst the bushes. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.936027,-1.120908,3a,75y,289.08h,90.21t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sf1xYDHjGQjK02Vq9uLudmA!2e0?hl=en
  16. DAVIDW, you are correct in the location of those roads ! I've checked on a map with names; and the geography fits with caves and split-levels. In 1911 a William Belshaw (occupation pavers labourer ) is living with wife Lydia Belshaw at 15 Water St,. Sneinton . 2 children with them , a William aged 4 and a newborn Edwin . Water Street was in the area of Lower Parliament Street where all the bus garages are now located. No caves there.
  17. Do you have the photo in digital form? - Or is it a real photo?
  18. Found an old photo taken from a similar position to one of mine. One building has survived, but the rest is totally different.
  19. Sounds like it might have been in the Broad Marsh/Narrow Marsh area. If you can post that photo it might help us identify the location.
  20. You can resize within Photobucket. When you select a particular photo in Photobucket, click on the Edit button here. You can then input whatever size you need.
  21. Evening Post..........Which is the thread that talks about what people used to have pinned to the wall in outside toilets?
  22. Rushcliffe do a similar "aren't we wonderful" publication.
  23. You'll get something stuffed through your letterbox.
  24. Can you see it here? I've zoomed in on 'Britain from Above' and hopefully it's pointing the right way. The Toll Bridge is on the right, and you can even see a trolley bus at the roundabout.
