  1. Nice one Pete, looks a nice plot and even when it's all dug and things are growing it's just nice to sit there and look back on all the hard work that's gone into it, any plans to put glass on it or just keep to the bedding plots? Rog
  2. I remember one of Shippo's horses and it's youngster being present at the opening of the Grey Mare public house on Farnborough road Clifton in the early 60's, seem to recall there being a photo of such in the bar, don't know if it's still there though, (the pub or the photo) Rog

Still trying to lose weight through cycling but it don't seem to be happening. anyway next Sunday 28th there is a Trike ride around Rutland water, not very often you see a recumbent trike but next weeks effort should produce at least 15, should be quite a spectacle 25 miles with no doubt the obligatory drinks stops at various inns on the way, looking forward to the ride and hopefully get some pics to post Rog
  5. Hi Norma and welcome, I Grew up on Wilford grove then Bathley street just round the corner from Bunbury street bus sheds in the 50's until about 61 then moved to Clifton. Rog

  7. Not forgetting that iconic British sound to announce the official arrival of the British spring,,,,the sound of the lawnmower engine refusing to start quickly followed by the foul and abusive language from the British gardener Rog
  8. Is spring a bit early this year? Sand Martins have been arriving over the east coast for the last few days and just a handful of swallows, the Martins are maybe a couple of weeks early but the swallows more like a month, follow their progress on "lincs bird club" website Rog

I remember holidaying in North Wales, must have been the early 80's, went to Shell Island for the day and sat overlooking RAE LLanbdre I spent the whole day watching "Jindviks"(sp) taking off (pilotless drones) also the black and yellow Canberra's flying out over Tremadog bay, , last year when we were climbing Snowdon we were buzzed a few time by a couple of Merlin helicopters quickly followed by some Hawks from Valley, nice part of the world Rog

Nice to see the Valley hawks, I remember seeing them last year skimming the sea when we were on South Stack birding, Dakota up today, nice blue skies and the air was filled with that engine sound, can't wait for the Merlin engines to fire into life and I believe the Typhoon will start it's display practice in a couple of weeks time, Nice pics by the way Ian Rog

Had a drive around Coningsby today (lunchtime) to see if owt about, Dakota outside hangar having the cobwebs brushed off, other side of hangar Hurricane with engine cowls off getting a bit of attention in the sunshine, a nice lineup of Typhoons on the ASP, both No29 and No3 sqdns, a bit further out was No41 sqdn Harrier and Tornado, the Tornado was being made ready to fly, by the time I got round to New York side of runway the Tornado was ready to take off just as soon as a King Air from Cranwell had cleared the runway, I just got to Gibbet Nook corner when Tornado took off leaving behind a bl
  12. Did notice a few passes in the shape of the letter "T" remember they did it a few years ago and called it the "hammer head" plus what seemed like some low passes doing something like a "corkscrew" effect or multiple barrel rolls Rog
  13. I watched the Reds perform their display this morning over Coningsby, what can I say? brilliant as ever, no signs of any Spitfires though so maybe not from here Rog

  15. Resembles quite a lot of the sights I see out here in Lincolnshire, eating weeds, webbed feet breeds in marshlands, can he count to six on one hand? Rog

I seem to remember having to go somewhere down canal street (no pun intended) maybe an old school or what looked like one, all these dentist chairs in a row in the same room and kids sat in each one having some treatment, scared the hell out of me so I ran off and didn't stop till I got to me Grannies on Wilford grove Rog

Started off at the Whistle stop,(Under the Victoria hotel), then onto the Hearty Goodfellows down Maid Marion way, then across the road and down a bit to Hounds gate to The Imperial, a snogging session down Drury hill (in the doorway to the hosiery factory) then catch the 68 bus back to Clifton in time for last orders in the Grey Mare, Rog

Got the info off "lincs bird club" website,(some good pictures of it on there by the way) went over on Thursday evening on me way home from work but didn't see anything, same again Friday lunchtime but on Saturday there was two guy's with binoculars in a gateway where I looked previously but saw nowt, I parked in the layby, walked back to them and it was on the fence about 50 mts in front, it then took flight and sat in the tree above us then a short flight over the road and perched in the tree above my car, brilliant except i didn't have me camera, went again yesterday with camera and just ma

Not sure whether this should come under wildlife, spring is coming or a childhood pleasure because thats what I felt like after seeing a Great Grey Shrike (lanius excubitor) or Butcher bird as it is sometimes called because it hangs it's prey on thorns in the bushes until it's ready to eat it, prey being insects, small birds, and mammals to the size of stoats, this is a bird that is not as big as a blackbird. First time I have ever seen one, it is/was between Welbourn and the A15, only about 8 miles east of Newark so I suppose it nearly counts as Notts. Any way I'm chuffed (only about 40 in t
