Ayup all, Paid a visit to good old Skeggy today and had a great time, Bag of chips with salt and vinegar, mug of coffee, walked along the front and took in the sea air, great, lots of people there all having a good time. finished the day off with a bag of do-nuts and another mug of coffee. No need to travel far, after all it were good enough for a week when we were kids and everyone spoke the same language. you could pick out the Nottingham accents though Rog
  2. Ayup Stan, I remember cycling from Sneinton to Clifton each night from work along canal street and just before the old Broad Marsh area there was a building just before the railway bridge and wrote on the side you could make out the words "Beds for the night 6d" Would this be in the area you were talking about? Rog
  3. Ayup Jane, I think you mean UB40, cracking band, really captured the sound of the caribs, I always feel happier when I hear them, perhaps it's Caribean happiness. Rog

  14. Ayup all, I vaguely remember some sheep being driven over the ha'penny bridge back in the 50s. I think they were unloaded from the cattle trucks in the railway sidings and made to trot across the bridge to the fields where the rugby pitches are now, I too have paid to go over the bridge, but if you bought some sweets from the little shop there you could go across free. Rog
  15. Remember playing CONKERS in the autumn, but first you had to collect them, never satisfied with the windfalls you had to throw sticks into the tree and knock em out, many a time I've been hit on the head with my returning stick, probably explains a lot though thinking about it. Rog

Ayup BIP, Some poor sod in Lincoln was find £80 I think it was for throwing a fag end out of her car window, she was spotted by wannabe cop who passed on her registration number to the authorities, A few days later she recieved the fine through the post. 23. Ayup Limey, I still live in the UK and I can tell you in Nottingham (when I go there) it's difficult to get some good old British snap now, however you can get any amount of halal, sugar dumplins, chicken and peas and rice etc but try looking for home made black pudding, faggots, and chips cooked in dripping. I suppose that what makes Nottingham the interesting and exciting place it is with such diversity,(tongue in cheek there) Rog
  24. Ayup Mick, Read somewhere recently that there used to be a workhouse in the Hartley road area, could this be someway connected to kid's home/orphanage? Rog
  25. Ayup Radford, You are quite right about Fosset & Thorne being in Boston, I've drove past their place this afternoon Sunday 25th Feb. Don't know why they left Nottingham though. Rog
