  1. We made the mistake of going back to St Saviours church(medders) for our 50th ann, flying visit to Nottingham last july,seems to be no longer a church but a childrens creche,they did not want us to go in as we had no children with us ,explained and they said we could go in for 5 mins,just what has the world come to it is still a church but they have no vicar I was told,wished we had not bothered,wife in tears... Very warm in the west this week over 40c but a dry heat so not too bad with aircond off to Sydney Sunday for 10 day South Pacific cruise on Explorer of the Seas.......;
  2. Notts County had circa 3000 Managers,well its seemed like that....
  3. That is certainly the smell I remember near the top on the right,also I have been known to drive the gas board mini down the hill without having to steer,fair dinkum but I was young....

  6. Think his choice of Alan Knott over Adam Gilchrist shows a local bias as the figures would show....
  7. To think I caught a trolleybus nearly everyday of my life upto getting married,on Saturdays we used to catch the 43 from Kirkewhite St to Bulwell Market then walk to our HOME GROUND of Hempshill Lane as ST Saviours Youth Team 60/62....Wonderful times....
  8. I remember a programme from way back called "pinpoint" which was like a travelodge starting at one point and coming back affer about a 15 min journey in film back to the starting point(if you follow me).This is what I try to do in my threads if i can give some room to reply too. 10. Here's a slightly different slant,my Grandad and Grandma lived next day to us in Atlas Terrace 25 & 27. in 1955 my grandma at the ripe old age of 55 had a blackout as she was lighting the gas oven and as they had no safety device on that oven sadly she died Bonfire night 1955, so I always remember(along with becoming a gasfitter). So the point is my Grandad moved in with us and slept in the same bedroom as me till I left home in 1965 and moved with my wife of now 50 years to Alexandra Park in a lovely 1st floor flat,I moved into that flat Goose Fair Thurs 1965 and my wife moved in 30t
  11. I can fill a couple of gaps here which may help ,my wife lived with her Grandma for a time(17-21) at Livingstone Terr and then Walker Terr(when I met her) and so knew Alan Goodband and John Crofts,Michael they were at school same time as us but you would have problems as they were in the "c" stream and are a rags to riches story. I believe they made a lot of money pulling down the "Medders" and then moved into the hotel game together with their wives,in fact when we returned to the UK 79/81 they owned the Manor Club in West Bridgford and we went there most Friday nights for a meal and the ent
  12. Ok Michael,it might be because we have not got a manager at the moment.
  13. I, am sorry that I got the wrong end of the stick it followed a sleepless night after posting and I was upset that it had been removed thank you for your kind thoughts and life will go on.....
  14. I,am sorry my thread was removed from this site,I.am sure whoever did this thought they were doing the right thing. I feel it was a measured piece which just told the facts, unpleasant no doubt but just bore witness to another time. Sometimes you have to face demons and I have always been a person willing to tilt at windmills... I find myself unable to contribute anymore to this site.
  15. I was at Trent Bridge from 55/59 along with Michael B (although he has a few problems remembering) the new headmaster in 1955 Mr Green (later I think at Ellis) could be a rather disagreeable chap as indeed were many of the teachers mentioned on this forum,anyway he was the first I understand to ban us going in the "rock gardens" and also banned christmas parties at the school after a slow hand clap when a projector broke down Christmas 1955. Do I sound bitter,well there,s a reason you see this same headmaster had a teacher hold a boy down whilst he thrashed him also chasing him around the

  17. I did not go being a Notts fan but I did deliver Billy Walkers paper if that counts.....
  18. If its West End Arcade there was of course the famous "rip off your toe "escalator now I understand closed, so thru traffic will be in short supply if you have to climb stairs.Would be interested to know when the escalator was installed because in 79/81 I owned the Honeycoombe Cafe at the bottom of the escalator so had to shell out a few bob in maintance and repairs ,but without it business would have been all the poorer....

  23. Never heard of that one but it is possible because you needed them for Barton buses etc,walked from Stapleford to Trowel Rd and needed them on those buses back to Nottm... P.s I was back in Stapleford in July for a couple of days stayed with a friend on Kennedy Drive worked on that estate when it was being built,I walked around as if I was carrying .the tool bag went from Stapleford to Ilkeston and back via the canal it was magic.......
  24. Thinking about old buses,does anyone remember the one Peoples College had.think it was blue and had the separate drivers cab on it.Cicra 1962/63 I was in a group who made 3 or 4 canoes at the College and then we joined the main group of students and took them to the River Durance in the south of France,they went on the top of the bus but we had to put them inside the bus on the ferry to save charges (they were a 2 man canoe)Such a wonderful time boys and girls in tents on the French Riviera......
  25. Yes remember them well,heres one for you I left Les Prestons on the bus one night and did not remember till got to W/boro RD next day,lucky still was on bus end of shift so had to go to lost and found and pay to get it back,they had a fee(so they told me) of 10% of the value but put them down as misc so I think I paid 2 bob.Anyone else know about these fees. P.S. it was the leather type... Just thought why did,nt I pay the fine in bus tokens? Anyone else get bus tokens from work,sometimes gave them to a conductor for half value,gee we were rogues.........
