  1. banjo, the Mapperley Fish Bar is still there and I think it's still pretty good but we rarely go up there. Panchos (it's on Mansfield Road in Carrington) was apparently very good years ago, before we moved back to Nottingham, and then it was taken over by some other people. It's our local chippy but we'd rather get in the car to fetch our takeaway from elsewhere as the food at Panchos is pretty awful but they stay in business ....... no idea how!
  2. Causerie does ring a bell with me ........ I think we might have called it 'the Cozy'. Can't for the life of me remember where it was though.
  3. I couldn't stand Mike and Bernie Winters either but Shnorbitz was my sister-in-law's dog, she lent / hired him to Bernie for his show and then Bernie loved him so much that he adopted him.
  4. I've never ever had a supermarket deliver food to my home, I don't mind going to the shop and looking (and feeling) and making my own choice. Maybe when I'm too old to drive I may consider that option but in the meantime I'm happy to go and fill my trolley.
  5. On the top photo on Cliff Ton's post # 6, look at the 'ladies who lunch'. !!!
  6. We used to have a wren's nest in ivy on a tree trunk, by a close-boarded fence. It came back every year for several years then last Spring it suddenly disappeared. I'm convinced a local cat got to it, off the fence.
  7. Oh I say ......... they're all so rude! I only ever came across SWALK !!

  11. Colour TV definitely started in UK in 1967. I saw colour tv for the first time at a boyfriend's house in Widmerpool. He was the son of a Nottingham scrap metal merchant, mentioning no names here! Apart from the wonders of seeing television in colour I also saw piles of gambling chips on the sideboard ...... summat I'd NEVER seen in my life before !!
  12. Fabulous photos Compo. You must be always busy in your garden, it's lovely.

Such a funny man, loved him in Blackadder. Very sad, he was too young to die.
  14. I visited my maternal grandparents down the Medders at least once a week and before I started school I'd go with Mum on the train from Netherfield to the Midland Station 2 or 3 times a week. They lived on Queens Grove, just down Queens Drive and only yards from the station. The front door was always locked and we had to walk down an entry and along the back of the houses, past the rows of outside toilets, down a couple of steps into the back yard and straight into the scullery when there was always something cooking, very often stew. I was the first grandchild and was given a lot of attenti
  15. Me too Darkazana! My husband had two like that 30 odd years ago after he'd run the London Marathon. Horrible!!
  16. The nail bars are keeping the Vietnamese immigrants employed.
  17. Yes Rob, I watched that programme, it was really interesting and I learnt so much about the D Day landings that I'd never heard about before. Hope it's shown again sometime.
  18. Ummm ...... just re-read the above post made by me and I don't understand what I've written, haha. What I should have said is 'If you were writing on a slate then that must have been pre WW1'. I'd like to blame predictive text on my iPad and maybe too much wine last night!
  19. Never heard of any of them, must be me age!
  20. Do you remember when the Hollies were on at the Sherwood Rooms and the lead singer Alan Clark (?) was drunk on stage? There was another time when the Righteous Brothers were supposed to be on and they didn't turn up and the Walker Brothers were on instead, we'd never heard of them but they were brilliant.
  21. I never knew about pottery figures, please enlighten us Moz
