When there were blue buses
The Pianoman replied to StephenFord's topic in Pete's Nottingham Transport Forum
This could even be one of them, but probably not! -
When there were blue buses
The Pianoman replied to StephenFord's topic in Pete's Nottingham Transport Forum
The YNU's were based at Langley Mill for most of their lives, I remember them well. I don't remember ever seeing the TRB's, blue or green so I am guessing that they remained at Mansfield -
Same opinion. Speakers and cables everywhere. The red tit on my TV is also very low down.

Nottingham Road 1925 - Tram Route

OK. I don't know Derby that well. Prefer it to stay that way :-) -
Nottingham Road 1925 - Tram Route
The Pianoman replied to Catonine's topic in Pete's Nottingham Transport Forum
Could this be Nottingham Road Chaddesden. There is a row of shops like that more or less opposite the Beau Brummel which is on the corner of Chaddesden Lane End(?). Notts & Derbys trams were surely painted blue and cream same as their motorbuses. -
Last time I heard Wharfedale was owned by Currys. And yes, it is just a name.

Bottom end of Woodborough Road
The Pianoman replied to Cliff Ton's topic in St Anns, Sneinton & Colwick
The photographer was standing not far above (or below?) the place of my birth at No. 264. -
My woodwork teacher was a horrible little Welsh s**t. Mr Phillips. Another little Hitler but in actual fact I learnt a hell of a lot from him and still using it today.

Would the Mick Rowley you mention be an ex RR employee now probably in his mid 70's?

Only just noticed she was a 1956 model same as me. I hope I do better than that.

Old Roads around Basford
The Pianoman replied to Ashley's topic in 'Mucky Ukna' Bull'el Baasford & Hyson Green
Your pictures make it look quite posh compared with when I last noticed it a few weeks ago :-) -
The one in Shippos used to do a lot of catalogue returns and Currys returns etc. They were good but have more recently tended to go online as well as live and seemed to go very expensive. I was making money out of it but stopped going about 5 years ago as no longer viable.

They want sticking on Ebay. Somebody will buy them

Vinyl records - collecting and valuation
The Pianoman replied to BilboroughShirley's topic in Technology
Vinyl is better than any form of digitised music. Everything that was on the original master tape is on the vinyl. When a CD is made the peaks of the soundwave are lost. MP3 is even worse. The same applies to electric keyboards. The sound is digital, so the peaks of the soundwaves are lost and also there are no harmonics. The only thing that can be better than vinyl or the original master tape is live music on ACOUSTIC instruments. -
I have also put a stop to NWBW. It was OK for a while but it has got just too much.

For the 1911 census we have the actual form. There is a column for 'number of children born alive', sub divided into 'children still living and children died. Every 1911 census form I have seen has a record of at least one child dying. It must have been expected. My G Grandmother on my mothers side died in childbirth in 1913. That wasn't uncommon either.

The Mansfield firm must have been Redfern.

BAS is definitely a re-reg. I have seen them on classic cars that people have stolen original registrations from for profit! The original registration is now probably owned by Michael Dennis Leivers!
-
BAS is either not an original registration or the bus was not originally Southern Vectis. Isle of Wight registrations were all *DL

Nottingham on YouTube
The Pianoman replied to The Pianoman's topic in Pete's Nottingham Transport Forum
Well fancy that ! -
Just found this on YouTube, Some of it must be wartime judging by the white painted wheel arches on the buses/trollies etc.
