  2. Really resonate with that! Just moved into maisonette with fairly large, blank canvas garden. Can’t wait to get stuck in. Already got stuck into the cider!
  3. I remember Staniforths chippy. Lived in the flat above the launderette next door. My aunt worked in the pork butchers on the corner of Denehurst and later owned the little grocery shop next door.
  4. Moving to our new maisonette tomorrow, which means I’ll have a garden again. Have spent the last couple of days Googling ....... SHEDS!!!
  5. I had names for several of my teachers - none of which I could post on here.
  6. For someone who used to walk in North Wales and the Lakes, I’ve degenerated into a couch potato. Walking to the Co-op is about my limit!

  8. “You stopped and smiled at me, Asked me if I’d kettle dance....” Dusty, “I only want to be with you”

  10. “She gave me water...... I wanted Carlsberg!” Went into Durham Cathedral and got my camera out. Sour faced lady came up and said, “No photos!”. Two minutes after a guy came up and offered to SELL me some. Apparently he was the cathedral’s “official” photographer!
  11. Is there any graffiti on the bridge?
  12. Banksy - artist or vandal?

  14. Great photos! I’m sure you must have answered this somewhere before, but what camera do you use.
  15. Well deserved break! Hope the sunshine has given you a boost!
  16. No problem, Nonna. Once I learn two words in a language I tend to think I’m fluent. Especially if I’ve had a drink. I even go to the Thai takeaway, bow politely and say, “sawat di, khrap”. When they give me my order I bow again and say, “kobh khun, khrap” They are polite enough not to laught until I’ve left. I’m afraid I haven’t eaten at any of your restaurants, but often went to La Capanna, La Contessa (?) downstairs off St. James Street, and one which was upstairs almost opposite Sisson and Parkers on Wheeler Gate (or was that perhaps La Contessa when they moved?
  17. And thank God for chip and pin!!
  18. You’re all bleddy lucky, that’s all I can say! All my life, I’ve loved the act of writing. My favourite place, apart from the library, was a stationers. I loved pens, well all writing instruments really. Very fine ballpoints, italic pens, you name it, I used it. Then, in my 50’s, my handwriting started to become very cramped and eventually handwriting became virtually impossible. I was diagnosed with Writer’s Cramp. This is not an ache that develops when you have been writing for a bit, it actually PREVENTS you from writing. It is not fully understood, but is a malfunction of the b
  19. Oh, and I am as white as white, but my great-grandfather was described in the local press (I’m afraid he was a bad lad, to say the least) as a “coal-black, West Indian.” When my uncle introduced his future wife to my grandma she later said, “Eric, you didn’t tell me your mother was black!” He said, “Is she! She’s just my Mum!” That’s shaped my views on racism.
  20. Wow! Inspiring story. Do you mind telling us the names of the restaurants, I might have eaten there? You may remember we met at a reunion at the pub on St. James Street, Chulla was there. I said “ciao” (like a pratt!) and you replied with a stream of beautiful Italian! Put me in my place - in a nice way.
  21. Where's Ben? Can't see he's posted in a week or more. If you're reading, hope you're alright!
