  2. Remember selling Milo at Marsdens back in the 60s........a not very popular Beverage in a Green can.....think it originated in Australia.....believe its still sold........

Loved Cliff shirt in Expresso Bongo''......about 1960 had to go and buy one like it......from memory it was 19/11............like me shirts and usually pay a lot of money for em.........however this morning saw a shirt that looked very much like it in a charity shop...£2......and looked almost new.....had to have it.........been 'Poncing ' about in it all afternoon.......lol Edit....brilliant on full screen...
  7. Thanks for that Kev...........i m certain that Marsdens warehouse was there in the late 50s or early 60s....before the takeover/merger with Farrands.....after which they operated out of Wigman road as one company..........

Amazing how different subjects can get connected on here............after Stuarts find the other day that Marsdens began in 1880.....then Union road crops up on this thread which was where Marsdens warehouse was......i m pretty sure until the merger with Farrands about 1959.......i'm wondering now how long it had been on Union road perhaps even as far back as the 1880's..?

  11. Looks even before my time @trogg ....i did work in one round the corner on Lower Parliament street....in 1965 as relief manager....i know it was 65 because i remember closing the shop for 5 minutes for Winston Churchill's funeral.....
  12. I was born less than 100 yards from @Troggs house on Leybourne drive....at my Aunts house 118.......and 4 doors from my Grandparents at 126...........they both had a scullery and a Ponch....oh yes and a Companion set...............and being Posh a Dartboard on the living room door.........

A right Misty morning......reminds me of the 60s and working for Marsdens as a teenager........and thinking what exotic place am i catching 2 buses to today ...Broxtowe....Meadows...Basford...could even be Netherfield or Carlton....maybe even a Train to Long Eaton or Grantham.........aah wonderful days...who will i meet today?........

That bit of road takes me back to my Coop days.....security had a small office that backed on to Wollaton street and next to that was a goods delivery place that recessed into the building........ It was used as a shelter by a homeless chap at night.........he had to be moved every morning and mostly a Guard did this by shouting and being generally abusive to him........... But if i got there afore him i did it with humour (being a nice bloke) usually gave him a Smoke' and even sometimes a couple of 'Bob' ...felt really sorry for him.........being nasty doesnt solve pro
